The aim of this study is to describe and analyse four conflicts and two concepts. Four conflicts of conscience found in Swedish society are studied in the second chapter. 2.2 - the state’s requirement that all male citizens do military service and the citizen’s right to refuse to do military service. 2.3 - obligatory course requirements and the college student’s right to refuse participation in c

Simulation and Verification of Pacemaker Antennas

Two different antennas for use in implanted pacemakers are analyzed by simulation and measurement. The analysis was made with an FDTD-code. The simulations and measurements show good agreement. The SAR values for both the antennas are within the limits recommended by ICNIRP when the antenna is fed with 25 uW.

Nucleolar proteins with altered expression in leukemic cell lines.

The function of the nucleolus is intimately connected to cell proliferation, division and growth. Many cancer cells have enlarged nucleoli, and several nucleolar proteins have been linked to tumorigenesis. In order to find proteins whose expression is altered in the nucleoli of leukemic cells, we carried out two-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis (2-D DIGE) analyses. Prohibitin (PHB) and T

Circulating Levels of Brain-Enriched MicroRNAs Correlate with Neuron Specific Enolase after Cardiac Arrest-A Substudy of the Target Temperature Management Trial

Outcome prognostication after cardiac arrest (CA) is challenging. Current multimodal prediction approaches would benefit from new biomarkers. MicroRNAs constitute a novel class of disease markers and circulating levels of brain-enriched ones have been associated with outcome after CA. To determine whether these levels reflect the extent of brain damage in CA patients, we assessed their correlation

The exon3-deleted growth hormone receptor gene polymorphism (d3-GHR) is associated with insulin and spontaneous growth in short SGA children (NESGAS)

Objective The effect of a common polymorphism in the Growth Hormone (GH) receptor (d3-GHR) gene on growth, metabolism and body composition was examined in short children born small for gestational age (SGA) on GH treatment. Design In 96 prepubertal, short SGA children treated with high-dose GH (67 μg/kg/day) in the NESGAS study, insulin sensitivity (IS), insulin secretion and disposition index (DI

Association of circulating MicroRNA-124-3p levels with outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest : A substudy of a randomized clinical trial

IMPORTANCE: The value of microRNAs (miRNAs) as biomarkers has been investigated in various clinical contexts. Initial small-scale studies suggested that miRNAs might be useful indicators of outcome after cardiac arrest. OBJECTIVE: To address the prognostic value of circulating miRNAs in a large cohort of comatose patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This

In vitro cellular drug sensitivity at diagnosis is correlated to minimal residual disease at end of induction therapy in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Leukemic cells from 85 children with newly diagnosed precursor B-lineage ALL were tested for in vitro drug sensitivity to a panel of anti-cancer drugs. Minimal residual disease (MRD) was measured by RQ-PCR. There was a significant correlation between MRD day 29 and in vitro sensitivity to prednisolone (p < 0.001) and doxorubicin (p = 0.01 7), drugs administered during induction therapy. In patient

Group B streptococcal carriage in Sweden: a national study on risk factors for mother and infant colonisation

Background. To study group B streptococcus (GBS) colonisation in parturients and infants in relation to obstetric outcome and to define serotypes and antibiotic resistance in GBS isolates acquired. Methods. A population-based, national cohort of parturients and their infants was investigated. During 1 calendar week in 2005 all women giving birth (n=1,754) were requested to participate in the study

Mitochondrial DNA copy number is reduced in male combat veterans with PTSD.

Mitochondrial abnormalities may be involved in PTSD, although few studies have examined this. Mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn) in blood cells is an emerging systemic index of mitochondrial biogenesis and function. The present study assessed mtDNAcn in male combat-exposed veterans with PTSD compared to those without PTSD as well as its correlation with clinical scales.

Add-on probiotics for inflammatory depression – A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled trial

Previous treatment studies have suggested an antidepressant effect of adjunctive probiotics, but more high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are needed before clinical implementation. The mechanisms underlying putative antidepressant effects of probiotics are not understood, but one possibility is that they are mediated via short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) − neuroactive bacterial metaboli

Optoelectronic nanowire neuron

Three different semiconductor nanowires are combined into a single optoelectronic artificial neuron. Our device provides a path towards low power computations with significantly reduced circuit footprint, thus addressing critical limitations in neuromorphic photonics. The false-coloured scanning electron micrograph shown in Figure 1a depicts the fabricated nanowire neuron. Two pin-doped InP nanowi

On-chip optical communication to small footprint nanowire neurons

Photonics-based approaches to neuromorphic hardware offer advantages in speed and connectivity but often suffer from large device footprints.[1] Here, we present an ultra-compact artificial neuron built from semiconductor nanowires. A scanning electron micrograph of the nanowire device is presented in Figure 1a. Inside the dashed box, we show the neuron built from three III-V nanowires - two InP p

The 2024 Roxborough Park Wildfire Evacuation Drill - Lessons learned after planning, running, and studying a community evacuation exercise

In June 2024, the community of Roxborough Park, Colorado conducted a wildfire evacuation exercise (or drill for short) that was observed by a team of researchers. This collaborative effort involved residents, community organizers, first responders, emergency managers, and researchers. The drill aimed to test and refine evacuation protocols, communication strategies, and coordination among various

First-in-human, multicenter, open-label, phase I study of ATOR-1017 (evunzekibart), a 4-1BB antibody, in patients with advanced solid malignancies

BACKGROUND: ATOR-1017 (evunzekibart) is a human agonistic immunoglobulin G4 antibody targeting the costimulatory receptor 4-1BB (CD137). ATOR-1017 activates T cells and natural killer cells in the tumor environment, leading to immune-mediated tumor cell death.METHODS: In this first-in-human, multicenter, phase I study, ATOR-1017 was administered intravenously every 21 days as a monotherapy to pati

Immune Response in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer - Machine Learning-based Insights from Histology and -Omics

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype of breast cancer that lacks the expression of the oestrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and amplification of HER2. This subtype is the most aggressive subtype and a heterogeneous subgroup of breast cancer, making up around 10-15% of the cases, often affecting younger patients
