T3N0 glottic carcinoma: DNA S-phase as a predictor of the outcome after radiotherapy

In consecutive series of 326 laryngeal cancer patients, of 29 (9%) with stage T3N0 glottic carcinomas, 23 achieved complete local remission after curative radiotherapy and form the basis of the present investigation. Flow cytometry determinations of DNA-ploidy status and the S-phase fraction, and a "histopathological malignancy grading system" were evaluated as possible patient- and/or tumor-relat

Collisional broadening and spectral shapes of absorption lines of free and nanopore-confined O-2 gas

This paper presents fully ab initio calculations of the broadenings and spectral shapes of O-2 infrared absorption lines in a free gas and when confined in nanoporous media. These calculations are performed, without use of any adjusted parameter, using a recently proposed approach [Phys. Rev. A 87, 013403 (2013)] that is based on requantized classical molecular-dynamics simulations. This involves

Planetesimals on Eccentric Orbits Erode Rapidly

We investigate the possibility of erosion of planetesimals in a protoplanetary disk. We use theory and direct numerical simulations (lattice Boltzmann method) to calculate the erosion of large - much larger than the mean-free path of gas molecules - bodies of different shapes in flows. We find that erosion follows a universal power law in time, at intermediate times, independent of the Reynolds nu

Tumour gene expression signature in primary melanoma predicts long-term outcomes

Adjuvant systemic therapies are now routinely used following resection of stage III melanoma, however accurate prognostic information is needed to better stratify patients. We use differential expression analyses of primary tumours from 204 RNA-sequenced melanomas within a large adjuvant trial, identifying a 121 metastasis-associated gene signature. This signature strongly associated with progress
