Genome-encoded antibiotic resistance (ARE) ATP-binding cassette (ABC) proteins of the F subfamily (ARE-ABCFs) mediate intrinsic resistance in diverse Gram-positive bacteria. The diversity of chromosomally-encoded ARE-ABCFs is far from being fully experimentally explored. Here we characterise phylogenetically diverse genome-encoded ABCFs from Actinomycetia (Ard1 from Streptomyces capreolus, produce

Water is an essential parameter for fungal degradation of wood, but degradation primarily occursat high moisture levels at water potential in the range of -4 to -0.1 MPa, which corresponds to 97-99.9% relative humidity. At these moisture levels, water is present in the wood structure both inand outside of cell walls. The majority of previous studies on the interaction between wood andwater for unt

The relations between Gentiles and Jews in the Greco-Roman world generally appear to have been characterized by relative harmony. Although reciprocal stereotyping, hostility, and prejudice indeed existed among Jews and Gentiles, there is also ample evidence of positive Gentile-Jewish social interaction, at least within some strata of the population. This most likely took place in the context of va

For two-dimensional steady pure-gravity water waves with a unidirectional flow of constant favourable vorticity, we prove an explicit bound on the amplitude of the wave, which decays to zero as the vorticity tends to infinity. Notably, our result holds true for arbitrary water waves, that is, we do not have to restrict ourselves to periodic or solitary or symmetric waves.

We construct small amplitude gravity-capillary water waves with small nonzero vorticity, in three spatial dimensions, bifurcating from uniform flows. The waves are symmetric, and periodic in both horizontal coordinates. The proof is inspired by Lortz' construction of magnetohydrostatic equilibria in reflection-symmetric toroidal domains. It relies on a representation of the vorticity as the cross

We consider two-dimensional steady periodic gravity waves on water of finite depth with a prescribed but arbitrary vorticity distribution. The water surface is allowed to be overhanging and no assumptions regarding the absence of stagnation points and critical layers are made. Using conformal mappings and a new Babenko-type reformulation of Bernoulli's equation, we uncover an equivalent formulatio

The decarbonization of the energy-intensive and natural-resourced-based industries is associated with potentially large economic costs. In this paper, I explore how decarbonization may affect the profitability and market value of these industries. I also discuss the possibility of compensating for the investment costs through higher prices and enhanced productivity. Survey data Economic Tendency Survey Swedish households' perceptions of the current rate of inflation and their expectations of the future rate of inflation. They analyse what percentage of households can be considered to be poorly informed about inflation (as their responses devia on te significantly from the historical pattern of inflation), and what characterises these householdsUsing micro-level survey data from the National Institute of EconomicResearch’s Economic Tendency Survey, we find that a relatively largeshare of Swedish households is ill-informed about the rate of inflation inthe economy, with perceived and expected rates of inflation deviatingsubstantially from official measures. Probit analysis of the data indicatesthat such inflation illiteracy is related to

Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792 - 1822) was one of the major Romantic Poets and wrote what is critically recognised as some of the finest lyric poetry in the English Language. In this volume, the editors have selected the most popular, significant and frequently taught poems from the 6-volume Longman Annotated edition of Shelley's poems. Each poem is fully annotated, explained and contextualised, along

IntroductionInjury prevention training is effective in reducing injuries in youth team sports, but public health impact is limited because such training is not widely, properly, or sustainably implemented. Insufficient involvement of end-users has been identified as a main barrier to implementation. Based on results from previous studies within the I-PROTECT project, the aim was to develop a full

For patients with epilepsy, automatic epilepsy monitoring, i.e., the process of direct observation of the patient’s health status in real time, is crucial. Wearable systems provide the possibility of real-time epilepsy monitoring and alerting caregivers upon the occurrence of a seizure. In the context of the ICASSP 2023 Seizure Detection Challenge, we pro- pose a lightweight machine-learning frame

Wood-water interactions are central to the utilization of wood in our society since water affects many important characteristics of wood. This topic has been investigated for more than a century, but new knowledge continues to be generated as a result of improved experimental and computational methods. This review summarizes our current understanding of the fundamentals of water in wood and highli

BACKGROUND: SARS-CoV-2 has been shown to predominantly infect the airways and the respiratory tract and too often have an unpredictable and different pathologic pattern compared to other respiratory diseases. Current clinical diagnostical tools in pulmonary medicine expose patients to harmful radiation, are too unspecific or even invasive. Proteomic analysis of exhaled breath particles (EBPs) in c
