Wear of the UHMWPE component is one of the major concerns in joint replacement surgery, triggering prosthetic loosening leading to revision. The understanding of the mechanisms of material degradation, especially in regard to oxidation, is one of the keys to significantly improve the mechanical properties. This work focused on the relationship between the failure mechanism, crosslinking and oxidat

It is easy when studying the literature on the current development toward closer more integrated business to business relationships to get the impression that a close integrated relationship is desired for all circumstances. Instead, this thesis shows that the nature of business relationship is very strongly correlated to product supplied. The focus of this thesis has been a case study between a s

Där beskrevs även grunden för rikets gemenskap och SveThis study deals with questions about norm building and arguments for community in official royal rhetoric in the Swedish realm from 1660 to 1919. Every year, an intercession day proclamation issued by the King in Council (Kungl. Maj:ts böndagsplakat) was read out from pulpits across Sweden. Like many communiqués, they belonged to the proclamation system, which included the spreading of informatio

Optimal finite partial response signals based on 2 and 4 PAM were found by Said and Anderson. The encoder is a simple discrete-time filter, whose combination of bandwidth and Euclidian distance is optimized. Here we extend the idea to the case when the modulated symbols are first encoded by a convolutional encoder. Good narrowband codes are the result.

Is the real problem in resolving correspondence using current stereo algorithms the lack of the "right" matching criterion? In studying the related task of reconstructing three-dimensional space curves from their projections in multiple views, we suggest that the problem is more basic: matching and reconstruction are coupled, and so reconstruction algorithms should exploit ths rather than assuming

Recent research and practice have led to the development of relatively complex methods for inquiry which can be applied by human analysts. However, it has appeared until recently that these could not be supported by software tools, since the limitations of traditional mathematical algorithms constrained their development. We suggest a model which lays the foundations for the development of softwar

Molecular imprinting is a promising technique for the preparation of synthetic polymers of predetermined specificity. Functional monomers are copolymerized with crosslinkers in the presence of the desired molecule, the imprint molecule. The use of these polymers as chiral stationary phases is discussed. Other applications, such as antibody-mimics, enzyme-like catalysts and sensors, are also focuse

This report summaries the work undertaken to date, and provides a platform on which further site selection, training and fieldwork may be undertaken. The outline quantity of sitework is stated, based on a build up of likely time input required. The availability and applicability of the two main datasets, STATS19 and On The Spot (OTS) data, is summarised. Currently, STATS19 has yielded 11 potential

In Statistical Shape Modeling, a dense correspondence between the shapes in the training set must be established. Traditionally this has been done by hand, a process that commonly requires a lot of work and is difficult, especially in 3D. In recent years there has been a lot of work on automatic construction of Shape Models. In recent papers (Davies et al., Medical Image Computing and Computer-Ass
