Mean arterial pressure during targeted temperature management and renal function after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

Purpose: This study investigates the association between mean arterial pressure (MAP) and renal function after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Levels of Narrativity in Scandinavian Bronze Age Petroglyphs

In Europe, Scandinavia holds the largest concentration of rock art (i.e. petroglyphs), created c. 5000–first century BC, many of them showing figurative and seemingly narrative representations. In this paper, we will discuss possible narratological approaches applied to these images. We might reasonably distinguish between three levels of pictorial narrativity: representations of (i) single eventsIn Europe, Scandinavia holds the largest concentration of rock art (i.e. petroglyphs), created c. 5000–first century bc, many of them showing figurative and seemingly narrative representations. Familial risks in nervous system tumors

We used the nationwide Swedish Family-Cancer Database to analyze the risk for nervous system tumors in offspring through parental and sibling probands. Among 0-68-year-old offspring, close to 11000 patients with a nervous system tumor were identified in years 1961 to 2000, among whom 199 had a parent diagnosed with a nervous system tumor. Brain tumors constituted 86% of all tumors, and astrocytoma

Second primary cancers after sporadic and familial colorectal cancer

Second cancers were studied among 68,104 cases of colorectal cancer (CRC) from the Swedish Family-Cancer Database. A total of 1,113 patients received a diagnosis of second CRC; 25 of them had a family history of CRC. Cases of second CRC with a family history were diagnosed up to 10 years before sporadic cases. The relative risk (RR) of all second CRCs was 2.21 compared with the first CRC. Familial

Comparing Life Cycle Costing and Performance Part Costing in Assessing Acquisition and Operational Cost of New Manufacturing Technologies

Even if practitioners want to adopt new manufacturing technologies, there is a lack of comprehensive tools to support their decisions, regarding both cost and sustainability. This paper reviews and compares the practical use of Life Cycle Costing (LCC) with a performance part costing (PPC) model, chosen based upon the criteria of providing in-depth analysis capabilities and the prospect of integraIn today’s business environment, the trend towards more product variety and customization is unbroken. Due to this development, the need of agile and reconfigurable production systems emerged to cope with various products and product families. To design and optimize production systems as well as to choose the optimal product matches, product analysis methods are needed. Indeed, most of the known m

Professional blinders? The novel as an eye-opener in organizational analysis

Scholarly textbooks often follow a logic where suitable empirical cases are selected to illustrate the theoretical and analytical points that we as scholars want to make. But what would happen if we would do the opposite: build a textbook on a novel written by a novelist for such purpose and let the theories explain the actions and emotions of fictional characters? In this article, we share and re

Interventions for treatment of COVID-19 : A protocol for a living systematic review with network meta-analysis including individual patient data (The LIVING Project)

Background: COVID-19 is a rapidly spreading virus infection that has quickly caused extensive burden to individual, families, countries, and the globe. Bogong Moths Are Well Camouflaged by Effectively Decolourized Wing Scales

Moth wings are densely covered by wing scales that are assumed to specifically function to camouflage nocturnally active species during day time. Generally, moth wing scales are built according to the basic lepidopteran Bauplan, where the upper lamina consists of an array of parallel ridges and the lower lamina is a thin plane. The lower lamina hence acts as a thin film reflector having distinct rMoth wings are densely covered by wing scales that are assumed to specifically function to camouflage nocturnally active species during day time.
