CLUSTERING OF AFFECTIVE CATEGORIES IN SCANDINAVIAN AND ROMANCE LANGUAGES

Cross-cultural comparable data collected in several Romance and Scandinavian languages with the help of a series of tasks inspired by Fehr and Rusell’s prototype approach to emotions are analyzed from a perspective that goes beyond the interpretation of prototype theory and aligns with the theory-based approaches to categorization (cfr. the seminal paper by Murphy and Medin 1985). Due to space lim

Kvinnors vandel och brutet äktenskapslöfte. Äktenskapstvister i Cerisy 1314-1346

Output Feedback Stabilization of the Moore-Greitzer Compressor Model

This paper presents a number of facts related to theoutput feedback stabilization of the Moore-Greitzer compressor model. We show that quadratic feedback stabilization of the surge subsystem of the three-state Moore-Greitzer compressor model, which ensures absence of additional equilibria and cycles in the closed-loop system augmented with stall dynamics, implies convergence of all solutions to th

Gestational Age at Birth and Mortality in Young Adulthood

Context Preterm birth is the leading cause of infant mortality in developed countries, but the association between gestational age at birth and mortality in adulthood remains unknown. Objective To examine the association between gestational age at birth and mortality in young adulthood. Design, Setting, and Participants National cohort study of 674 820 individuals born as singletons in Sweden in 1

Apoptosis-Like Death in Bacteria Induced by HAMLET, a Human Milk Lipid-Protein Complex

Background: Apoptosis is the primary means for eliminating unwanted cells in multicellular organisms in order to preserve tissue homeostasis and function. It is characterized by distinct changes in the morphology of the dying cell that are orchestrated by a series of discrete biochemical events. Although there is evidence of primitive forms of programmed cell death also in prokaryotes, no informat

Toll-like receptor 4 expression and cytokine responses in the human urinary tract mucosa.

Mucosal pathogens trigger a local innate host response by activating epithelial cells. Bacterial adherence and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling have been implicated as key events in this process. This study addressed the molecular basis of the epithelial response to gram-negative infection in the human urinary tract. Mucosal biopsies were obtained from kidneys, ureters, and bladders of patien

Material Culture and Diasporic Experiences : A Case of Medieval Hanse Merchants in the Baltic

The Hanseatic League, a late medieval merchant association with roots in northern German towns, is credited with the establishment of extensive economic and geographic connections and considerable impact on the development of urban culture around the Baltic and the North Sea. Its merchants, regularly crossing the Seas and settling in foreign ports, created a network of diasporic communities often

Barn ska inte vara brickor i ett politiskt spel : en komparativ studie av Rysslands adoptionslagstiftning i förhållande till internationella riktlinjer kring adoption

The Russian Federation decided in late 2012 to ban adoptions to the United States. The adoption ban has been criticized from several directions for being motivated politically and that it did not take into account the children who were waiting for an adoption to the United States. Children who go through an adoption are often found in an unusually vulnerable position. Not only have they lost their

Mässofferläran, som teorin traditionellt kallas, har diskuterats ocThe Swedish High Church movement has, ever since its breakthrough in the 1930s, in one way or another struggled to accentuate the sacrificial motif in the celebration of the Mass. This is something that especially can be noted in the missals that have been produced within the movement, and by persons connected to it. The doctrine of the Sacrifice of the Mass, as this theory is known traditionally,

Digitalization of the Global Economy and the OECD Reform of MNE’s Corporate Income Tax : Background, Challenges, and Issues

This chapter explores key developments in international tax law amid the digitalization of the global economy. It examines challenges in taxing multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the OECD’s reform efforts under “Pillars One and Two”. The current tax system, designed for a pre-digital era, struggles to capture revenue from digital businesses, enabling profit shifting to low-tax jurisdictions and

Sensing the Atmosphere in Tightly Controlled Settings

This chapter highlights the centrality of atmospheres in tightly controlled environments like courtrooms and youth detention homes. In courtrooms, social control is achieved through affective arrangements, such as reading emotional cues and using touch or its avoidance to manage order. Legal professionals rely on their ability to sense and act on shifting atmospheres as part of their implicit skil

Jewish Children’s Experiences during the Holocaust

This chapter examines the experiences of children in the Holocaust in various geographic contexts. It raises questions about the avenues for rescue and survival of children and the limits of children’s agency. How did gender, age, and family background play a role? And how did children adjust to or resist their new - and supposedly temporary - separation from their families?.

The EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy In the Post-September 11 Era: "The Utility of a Constructivist Approach"

The EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy has been described as flawed or even non-existing by many critics due to its intergovernmentalist nature. One of the latest incidents illustrating the CFSP's malfunction came about in 2003 after the US decided to engage in a war against Iraq. The failure of the EU to generate a unified stance regarding the decision on how to act in Iraq was put f

This paper examines the relationship between late medieval and early modern princely ideals. The study is a comparative analysis of ideas between the Swedish "Konungastyrelsen" and Machiavelli's "Prince". By using political culture as an analytical tool, I show that there is a historical continuity in ideas, with some changes, in the Western European principality ideal.
