I have focused on the courses that dealt with culturally and historically valuable buildings and environments. These have often been about creating a future strategy for a building. We have learned to map qualities and see opportunities for future use. We have learned to value, prioritize and opt out. I have often thought about what we will want to preserve for the fu

What makes auditors motivated and satisfied?

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the perceptions of auditors at different career stages on current management control and the work environment. In order to gain a deeper analysis of the auditors' perspective, the study has used previous empirical research and theories of motivation and job satisfaction. Thus, two research questions have been formulated to support the study.

Testing aerosol vertical profiling methods with portable instruments on unmanned and manned aircraft

This thesis employed several portable sensors on board an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and manned aircraft in order to test new methods of measuring vertical profiles of aerosol particles and contribute to knowledge of aerosol distributions in the atmosphere. More data in this area is required to improve atmospheric modelling and future climate scenarios. The handheld nanoparticle detector Partec

THE ICANN UDRP - Fairness and efficiency perspectives on the domain name dispute resolution policy.

The Internet is a unique medium never before seen and its introduction is probably only rivalled by that of television. It is unique in the sense that every person connected to the Internet has the possibility of interacting with other people across the globe simultaneously. The tools introduced to facilitate this interaction are IP-addresses and domain names. Domain names are connected to the IP-

Organisationsstrukturens roll vid proaktiv krishantering

Problem: Today's changing environment gives rise to rapid sequence of events and rapid information dissemination. More attention is given to crisis and how organizations should manage them. Today there is much literature and many approaches to illustrate how an organization can optimize their crisis management, but yet crisis continues to generate problems for organizations. We believe that on

Localizing the Global - A Minor Field Study about Globalization and Identity among Call-Center Employees in Northern India

In our time it is widely argued that we are undergoing global transformations that influence the way we think about ourselves and how we interact and form ties with others. The intensified global integration of service sectors during the last five to ten years underscores such transformations. In recent research and among popular commentators the rise of transnational call-centers in India that pr

Produktutvecklingsprojekt med ekonomisk analys av Automatic Splicing Unit

In the present work the task was to analyse and improve the Automatic Splicing Unit (ASU), which is manufactured for Tetra Pak by Sterners Verkstad. The work includes: • Calculation of the total cost and profitability in the present situation. • Proposal for reducing the manufacturing costs for the ASU. • Suggested improvement for making the assembling more cost efficient. • Proposal for how the p

Decentralization and Regionalization of Surgical Care: A Review of Evidence for the Optimal Distribution of Surgical Services in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

Background: While recommendations for the optimal distribution of surgical services in high-income countries (HICs) exist, it is unclear how these translate to resource-limited settings. Given the significant shortage and maldistribution of surgical workforce and infrastructure in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the optimal role of decentralization versus regionalization (centraliza

Refugees’ Integration in the Built Environment: The Sweden Case

The resettlement and integration of a displaced population into a new society faces a plethora of challenges. These range from lack of national legal frameworks to plan and implement planned relocation, to the absence of a long-term vision, inadequate funds, and poor institutional structures. The 3-year EU Erasmus+ funded REGARD Project (REbuildinG AfteR Displacement) set out to address some of th

Crosstalk between astrocytes and microglia results in increased degradation of α-synuclein and amyloid-β aggregates

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are characterized by brain accumulation of aggregated amyloid-beta (Aβ) and alpha-synuclein (αSYN), respectively. In order to develop effective therapies, it is crucial to understand how the Aβ/αSYN aggregates can be cleared. Compelling data indicate that neuroinflammatory cells, including astrocytes and microglia, play a central ro

Editorial : Industrialized building

Fashions come and go. Industrialized building (IB) is no exception, having its roots far in the past and appearing in just about every type of construction, including infrastructure, at one time or another. Industrialization, as a term applied to the production of goods, can be on a macro-scale as in the case of large assemblies and near-complete structures. But it also applies to myriad products

Prenatal exposures to mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals and sex-specific associations with children's BMI and overweight at 5.5 years of age in the SELMA study

Background: Prenatal exposure to mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) has the potential to disrupt human metabolism. Prenatal periods are especially sensitive as many developmental processes are regulated by hormones. Prenatal exposure to EDCs has inconsistently been associated with children's body mass index (BMI) and obesity. The objective of this study was to investigate if prenatal

Predicting Soil Saturated Water Conductivity Using Pedo-Transfer Functions for Rocky Mountain Forests in Northern China

Soil physicochemical properties and macropore spatial structure affect saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks). However, due to regional differences and long measurement time, Ks is tedious to quantify. Therefore, it is of great importance to find simplified but robust methods to predict Ks. One possibility is to use pedo-transfer functions (PTFs). Along this line, stratified sampling was carried ou

Viscous-dependent fingering dynamics of gas invading into multi-fluids

To realize the transition of our society to a low-carbon future with innovative subsurface energy solutions, understanding the dynamic behavior of gas invading multi-fluid systems in underground pore space is critical. In this work, a joint approach of flow imaging and digital image processing is employed to investigate the fingering dynamics of gas invading multi-fluids in porous media. We examin

Modeling gas exchange and biomass production in West African Sahelian and Sudanian ecological zones

West African Sahelian and Sudanian ecosystems provide essential services to people and also play a significant role within the global carbon cycle. However, climate and land use are dynamically changing, and uncertainty remains with respect to how these changes will affect the potential of these regions to provide food and fodder resources or how they will affect the biosphere-atmosphere exchange

Naphthoxylosides – Probing the β4GalT7 active site

De flesta av oss förknippar kolhydrater Proteoglycans (PGs) is a class of highly anionic macromolecules that consist of one or more linear polysaccharide chains (glycosaminoglycans, GAGs) covalently attached to a core protein. The biological functions of PGs are mainly due to the interactions of GAG chains with various protein ligands and regulatory factors, such as cytokines and growth factors. PGs and GAGs are critical for a diverse s

Microhabitat accessibility determines peptide substrate degradation by soil microbial community

Soil pore space, considered the most complex biomaterial that exists, generates a complex environment, that gives rise to a wide variety of properties, such as microbial diversity and carbon storage. Soils contain, at the same time, the largest carbon reservoir on earth and an immense amount of nutrient-limited microbial biomass. The reason why this carbon is not consumed by soil microbes is attri

Roundtable - "What is strike? Definition and challenges of an “old” right in a futuristic world."

It is a universally acknowledged truth that the right to strike is one of the fundamentals of labour law. But what is it exactly? To what extent should it be protected and, thus, which limits are permissible? To find a unique answer to those questions is an uneasy task. In the contemporary multilevel legal framework the right to strike is regulated by a variety of provisions, moving from internatio

System simulations of a 1.5 V SiGe 81-86 GHz E-band transmitter

This paper presents simulation results for a sliding-IF SiGe E-band transmitter circuit for the 81-86 GHz E-band. The circuit was designed in a SiGe process with fT = 200 GHz and uses a supply of 1.5 V. The low supply voltage eliminates the need for a dedicated transmitter voltage regulator. The carrier generation is based on a 28 GHz quadrature voltage oscillator (QVCO). Upconversion to 84 GHz is
