Measuring Lane-changing Trajectories by Employing Context-based Modified Dynamic Time Warping

The spatial lane-changing (LC) behavior should be analyzed for the vehicles in transportation systems in order to identify the patterns of vehicles’ movements using the similarities detected in their lane-changing trajectories. The trajectory of an LC vehicle is a function of its context. The present paper utilized spatial footprints and external/internal contexts to contextualize a measure applic

Sensory Processing Difficulties in Children and Adolescents with Obsessive-Compulsive and Anxiety Disorders

Altered sensory processing has been linked to symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders (ADs) in youth, but few studies have examined sensory processing in clinical samples and no study has analyzed self-report data from youth meeting diagnostic criteria for OCD or ADs. This study included 86 youth with OCD, 82 youth with ADs, and 46 youth without psychiatric disorders.

Development of a core patient-centred outcome set for adults living with obesity : a modified delphi-based international consensus

Background: Obesity is a chronic disease linked to over 200 health conditions, reduced quality of life, and increased mortality. Despite the availability of multimodal treatments, there is a lack of standardised, patient-centred outcome measures to effectively assess and improve clinical care. This project aimed to define a core set of standardised outcome measures for adults with obesity, incorpo

Monolithic single-mode SU-8 waveguides for integrated optics

We present the fabrication and characterization of single mode waveguides fabricated monolithically in SU-8. SU-8 is a negative resist, which can be structured by UV lithography followed by a baking step to induce cross-linking. As a material platform, SU-8 is well suited for systems used for biochemical analysis, as it possesses very high chemical resistance and good mechanical stability. Here we

Some Aspects of Current Discourse on Knowledge Production and Knowledge Exchange between 'East' and 'West'

Increasing international and, often, cross-cultural contacts and exchanges in all spheres of human activity have created a world in which the access to other, alternative knowledge pools seems to be easier than ever before. Science in particular, or, more generally, fields of knowledge creation, are considered to have greatly benefited from this global inter-connectedness. At the same time, we can

Filter Bank Techniques for Signal and Image Processing

This thesis consists of five parts, each of which considers methods based on filter banks for different applications in signal and image processing. In Part I, a non-parametric estimation method is proposed using filter banks to estimate signals with varying waveforms and arrival times. This method, which provides a linear, robust estimate of the signal, is based on a series expansion by a set of

Ultra-low Voltage Embedded Memories – Design Aspects and a Biomedical Use-case

As the Internet of Things (IoT) era emerges the need for ultra-low power (ULP) devices is becoming more eminent. A research-proven approach to achieve ULP consumption is to aggressively lower the supply voltage (VDD) below or in the vicinity of the transistor threshold voltage (Vth) and operate the transistors in the subthreshold (sub-Vth) region. Operating below or near the threshold voltage, i.eAs the Internet of Things (IoT) era emerges the need for ultra-low power (ULP) devices is becoming more eminent. Co-gasification of coal and biomass wastes in an entrained flow gasifier: Modelling, simulation and integration opportunities

Gasification processes convert carbon-containing material into syngas through chemical reactions in the presence of gasifying agents such as air, oxygen, and steam. Syngas mixtures produced from such processes consist mainly of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and methane (CH4); this gas can be directly utilised as a fuel to produce electricity or steam. Besides, it is re

Taking care of oneself by regaining control - a key to continue living four to five decades after a suicide attempt in severe depression

Background: Depression is a strong risk factor for suicide and suicide attempt. Several studies have examined the pathway to suicide attempt, but few studies have considered aspects important for overcoming being suicidal. The aim of the present study was to examine personal strategies to continue living after a suicide attempt. Methods: A qualitative grounded theory approach was used. Thirteen fo

Hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose by cellobiohydrolase I and endoglucanase II from Trichoderma reesei: Adsorption, sugar production pattern, and synergism of the enzymes

Microcrystalline cellulose (10 g/L Avicel) was hydrolysed by two major cellulases, cellobiohydrolase I (CBH I) and endoglucanase II (EG II), of Trichoderma reesei. Two types of experiments were performed, and in both cases the enzymes were added alone and together, in equimolar mixtures. In time course studies the reaction time was varied between 3 min and 48 h at constant temperature (40degreesC)

The newborn human brain binds sound features together

To process a stimulus as a holistic entity, the human brain must be able to conjoin its different features. Previous evidence suggests that this ability emerges during the first months of life, implying its considerable dependence on postnatal development. We recorded human newborn (1-3 days of age) electrical brain responses to frequently occurring (standard) sounds and to rarely occurring (devia

Private Imports of Infringing Goods – How does the Manufacturing Fiction Apply?

Avgörandet i Rolex III är kontroversiellt eftersom det förlitar sig på användandet av en legal fiction på ett sådant sätt att avgörandetsOn November 8th 2011 the Danish Maritime and Commercial Court pronounced a ruling on the Rolex III case which caused uncertainty regarding the legal climate of intellectual property law, specifically the importation of infringing goods for private use. As the Rolex III case is quite a controversial ruling, relying on the use of legal fiction in such a way that its legal validity is questionable, i

Structured innovations – dynamics of organisational structures and innovation processes

Innovation is a key factor for sustainable growth and profitability of companies. As innovative, small, start-ups tend to grow, it is important to understand how the innovation performance can be maintained during the growth. The often relatively unstructured organisations of small companies need to implement structures in order to control the operations as they grow. There are contradictions and

Determinants of dividend policy

Dividend is a much-debated subject and has been compared to a puzzle with no sole solution to explain why firms pay dividend. Many academics have tried to determine what company variables determines a firm’s dividend policy. These studies have provided different explanatory variables to explain why firms pay dividends. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to fill in a piece of the dividen

Varumärkeskaraktären – den levande marknadsföringsstrategin

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate what the process should look like when a company chooses a brand character to personify their brand. Furthermore the purpose is to recognize the challenges and risks that should be taken into consideration when managing this strategy. The aim of this is to give marketers clear guidelines regarding the work process of how a brand character should

China and the Great Doubling: A race to the top or bottom for world labour standards?

Through economic openness, increased capital mobility and the resulting competition to innovate, the globalisation of capitalism ought to increase the wealth and living standards of all involved. However, in order for all to be involved, they must be of value to that economy. That the world lives largely in poverty means that the more the economy incorporates cheap labour, the lower the returns to
