Ströja kyrka – en aristokratisk medeltidskyrka

Today, Brahe Church mainly exhibits signs of the period of greatness of Visingsö island during the seventeenth century. However, there are also traces from much earlier periods. Ströja Church was built during the twelfth century, when the House of Erik and the House of Sverker contested for the title of king and the island of Visingsö had a prominent position in the new country of Sweden. We do no

LU Conference Poster Presentation - Porzionato

Rethinking Water-Land Relations through Sustainability Communication. Acqua alta describes the phenomenon of high tide which commonly submerges part of city of Venice during the winter season. In recent years, due to climate change, exceptional high tide levels have been registered, posing considerate challenges to the city’s survival. In an attempt to prevent Venice from being submerged, a majest

The fouling and cleaning challenge in the food industry

When applying membrane processes on industrial scale in the food industry both the fouling and the subsequent cleaning of the membranes are key but often underestimated factors. This presentation will focus on the impact of pre-treatment, operation conditions and module design on fouling and cleaning. After reviewing the current state-of-the-art of membrane fouling and cleaning in the food industry

Effects of long-term treatment with estrogen and progesterone on in vitro muscle responses of the female rabbit urinary bladder and urethra to autonomic drugs and nerve stimulation

Ovariectomized virginal rabbits were treated with either estrogen or progesterone for 4 to 6 months. In vitro responses of muscle strips of the bladder and circular urethra were examined. Estrogen resulted in bladder contractions in response to noradrenaline and phenylephrine, whereas these agonists were without effect or evoked weak relaxations in castrated animals (and normals). Estrogen also ca

Sydtyrolsk separatism i kölvattnet av finanskrisen

Separatist movements are gaining ground around Europe. From south to north regional separatist movements are raising their voices. The goals of each unique movement vary, from calls for increased autonomy to demands for full independence. In Italy’s autonomous province South Tyrol the question of separatism is something that engages all of the ethnical South Tyrolean parties. The parties included

Developing an open innovation culture in Lund’s innovation district

Recent years have brought new directionality to university’s work with innovation – increasing the focus on addressing societal challenges and contributing to much broader frames for impact. Working with complex challenges, where no one actor can do everything by themselves, requires collaboration across actor groups (private sector, academia, public sector, civil society), industrial sectors, dis

Now you’ve got it how are you going to use it: Innovative approaches for wheelchair training : Plenary 5, 9.00-11.00, June 21

According to the World Health Organization Wheelchair Provision Guidelines (2023) wheelchair training is a critical component of the wheelchair provision process. In fact, the guidelines ‘strongly recommend’ that training for power and manual wheelchairs needs to be provided to enable maximum use and prevent abandonment and secondary injuries. Moreover, task-specific training is particularly encouAccording to the World Health Organization Wheelchair Provision Guidelines (2023) wheelchair training is a critical component of the wheelchair provision process. New types of complex motion of a simple camphor boat

We discuss the motion of a rectangular camphor boat, considering the position of a camphor pill in relation to the boat's stern as the control parameter. The boat moves because the pill releases surface active molecules that decrease the surface tension and support the motion. We introduce a new experimental system in which the boat rotates on a long arm around the axis located at the centre of a

The association of solitary versus group-based arts participation with mental health: evidence from the UK Household Longitudinal Study

Aims:Research on the role of art in alleviating mental health problems has increased dramatically. However, it remains unclear whether mental health benefits of the arts are the same across different social contexts of arts participation. The aim of the study is to investigate associations between two modes of arts participation, solitary and group-based, and psychological wellbeing (12-item gener

Device Clusters

The number of devices owned by a consumer is increasing and furthermore the collaboration between devices will increase to support enhanced user experience, as seen in the case of Extended Reality (XR) services. Moreover, the upsurge of Internet of Things (IoT) in several industries is leading to a rise in the number of wireless sensors. A common factor across the vast swath of devices is that the

Adaptive multipath-based SLAM for distributed MIMO systems

Localizing users and mapping the environment using radio signals is a key task in emerging applications such as reliable communications, location-aware security, and safety critical navigation. Recently introduced multipath-based simultaneous localization and mapping (MP-SLAM) can jointly localize a mobile agent and the reflective surfaces in radio frequency (RF) environments. Most existing MP-SLA

Ribosome profiling analysis of eEF3-depleted Saccharomyces cerevisiae

In addition to the standard set of translation factors common in eukaryotic organisms, protein synthesis in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae requires an ABCF ATPase factor eEF3, eukaryotic Elongation Factor 3. eEF3 is an E-site binder that was originally identified as an essential factor involved in the elongation stage of protein synthesis. Recent biochemical experiments suggest an additional f

The Supported Osteoarthritis Self-Management Programme in primary health care. Patient-reported outcomes and physiotherapists´ experiences.

Abstract Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disabling joint disease affecting about 300 million people worldwide. Today, there is no cure for OA and treatment focuses on relieving symptoms. Guidelines recommend education, exercise, and weight control, as first-line treatment. In Sweden, first-line treatment is offered as a Supported Osteoarthritis Self-Management Programme (SOASP) combining educ

Reactions to environmental changes : Place attachment predicts interest in Earth observation data

Environmental changes such as extreme weather events become increasingly noticeable worldwide. Earth observation data provide information about such changes, but little is known about citizens’ perceptions of and responses to such changes. Across three studies, we assess whether people’s place attachment on different regional levels predicts interest in earth observation data, and whether perceive

Nowcasting (Short-Term Forecasting) of COVID-19 Hospitalizations Using Syndromic Healthcare Data, Sweden, 2020

We report on local nowcasting (short-term forecasting) of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) hospitalizations based on syndromic (symptom) data recorded in regular healthcare routines in Östergötland County (population ≈465,000), Sweden, early in the pandemic, when broad laboratory testing was unavailable. Daily nowcasts were supplied to the local healthcare management based on analyses of the time la

Self-reported mindfulness mediates the relation between meditation experience and psychological well-being

A well established notion in Buddhist literature is that meditation practice improves the ability to be mindful in daily life which in turn promotes psychological wellbeing. In order to test this hypothesis the relations between meditation experience, five mindfulness facets and psychological well-being were studied in a sample consisting of Buddhist meditators, Western mindfulness meditators and

Infant Health and Longevity: Evidence from A Historical Intervention in Sweden

This paper investigates the potential of an infant intervention to improve life expectancy, contributing to emerging interest in the early life origins of chronic disease. We track individuals from birth to death, and are able to identify age and cause of death. The intervention was pioneered in Sweden in 1931–1933, and appears to have been pivotal in the emergence of universal infant care program
