Skådepenningar i enväldets tjänst: Ekonomisk och politisk legitimitet i Gustav III:s kungliga medaljer 1772–1792

This bachelor’s thesis in Historical Archaeology concerns how the royal medals of the Swedish King Gustav III (1756-1792) functioned as a means of political propaganda, namely in what ways an official legitimizing narrative was created about the country’s economy and the role of the King herein, through the images and texts of the royal medals. Inspired by Clifford Geertz’ anthropological perspec

Measurement of D*(+/-) meson production and F-2(c) in deep-inelastic scattering at HERA

The inclusive production of D*+/-(2010) mesons in deep-inelastic scattering is studied with the HI detector at HERA. In the kinematic region 1 < Q(2) < 100 GeV2 and 0.05 < y < 0.7 an e(+) p cross section for inclusive D*+/- meson production of 8.50 +/- 0.42(stat.)(-100)(+1.21)(syst.) nb is measured in the visible range p(tD*) > 1.5 GeV and eta(D*) < 1.5. Single and double differential inclusive D*

Group G streptococci mediate fibrinogendependent platelet aggregation leading to transient entrapment in platelet aggregates

Platelets have been reported to become activated in response to bacteria and this is proposed to contribute to the acute response to bacterial infection. In the present study, we investigated platelet aggregation in response to group G streptococci (GGS) in vitro in healthy human donors and in vivo in a mouse model of streptococcal sepsis. Platelet aggregation by GGS was dependent on the bacterial

Using AquaCrop for Irrigation and water productivity assessment of Table grapes in arid region of Mexico

The aim of this work is to use the AquaCrop model for irrigation and water productivity assessment of Table grapes in arid region of Mexico during 2005 and 2006 cropping seasons. The irrigation efficiency was investigated by comparing the irrigation scheduling design used by the farmer to the AquaCrop model recommendations. Data analysis showed that the farmer irrigates almost every day, which res

Silver rings and marten skins : Contacts between the Volga Region and the Baltic in the early Viking Age

Viking Age silver is a useful tool for tracing various aspects of the society. Contact networks, trade organization, society structure, economic variation etc. This paper concentrates on the so-called Permian rings, which appear in Scandinavian silver hoards from Early Viking Age. Their main concentration is, however, in the regions west of the Ural Mountains in Russia. As the rings found in Russi

Sky Skan visit

As discussed at our meeting this morning SkySkan is coming to Skåne to do a service visit in Lund and would like to do a site visit in Malmö before/during/after being in Lund. SkySkan: Please indicate which days you would be able to come to Sweden and submit and feel free to include any comments you may have Malmö Museums: Please indicate which days would be suitable to receive Sky Skan (Glenn and

Meaningful silence, meaningless sounds.

This paper discusses the very general question of how syntactic features of individual languages relate to the universal set of syntactic features. It is pointed out that Chomsky’s approach (2001a) to this fundamental issue is paradoxical. On one hand he argues that language is uniform in the relevant sense (L-UNIFORMITY), but, on the other hand, he also assumes that languages make different selec

Sustainable entrepreneurship undergraduate education: A community of practice perspective

This chapter explores how an undergraduate elective course employs a community of practice to change students’ perceptions on sustainable entrepreneurship. For this purpose, the authors conducted a case study of an undergraduate elective course in a Swedish business school re-designed to adopt sustainability and sustainable entrepreneurship education. The authors found evidence that, when students

The Brand Behind the Binge: Understanding Streaming Series as Brands

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to contribute to an expansion of what can be considered as a brand. Specifically, this paper examines how streaming series can be seen as brands through a brand identity lens. Methodology: A qualitative research approach, with a social constructivist perspective, has been done by applying the Brand Identity Prism, with the additional element brand promise, to

GigaFRoST : The gigabit fast readout system for tomography

Owing to recent developments in CMOS technology, it is now possible to exploit tomographic microscopy at third-generation synchrotron facilities with unprecedented speeds. Despite this rapid technical progress, one crucial limitation for the investigation of realistic dynamic systems has remained: A generally short total acquisition time at high frame rates due to the limited internal memory of av

Inertia-Induced Breakdown of Acoustic Sorting Efficiency at High Flow Rates

The clinical utility of microfluidic techniques is often hampered by an unsatisfying sample throughput. Here, the effect of inertial forces on acoustofluidic particle sorting at high sample throughputs is investigated experimentally and theoretically. Polystyrene particles are acoustically prefocused to obtain precise trajectories. At increased flow rates it is observed that the particle stream is

The Mystical End of Finitude: Analogia Entis as Catholic Denkform

This thesis aims to show that the doctrine of analogia entis, the analogy of being, is a proper form of thought for Catholic theology, because it is based on a theological metaphysics. The thesis includes a very brief historical account of the concept of analogy in philosophical and theological metaphysics, but has for its real starting point the exclamation of Karl Barth that the analogia entis i
