New blood marker reduces the risk of a false diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease
New blood tests for diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease are making early diagnosis increasingly feasible. However, the fact that the markers being measured change long before any symptoms develop represents a challenge. Research led by Lund University in Sweden shows that a previously unused blood marker, when combined with those markers already in use, can significantly reduce the risk of misleading d

Agreement for Inspera extended – continued opportunity for digital exams
The agreement for Inspera, which is used for digital examinations at Lund University, has been extended for another four years. This means that both teachers and students can continue to use the tool until September 2028. Inspera facilitates grading and contributes to a more secure examination environment. Meanwhile, preparations for a new procurement process for future needs are underway. Photo:

The world’s fastest film camera: when light practically stands still
This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Forget high-speed cameras capturing 100 000 images per second. A research group at Lund University in Sweden has developed a camera that can film at a rate equivalent to five trillion images per second, or events as short as 0.2 trillionths of a second. This is faster than has previously been possible. The new super-f

Backward lasing – a breakthrough for remote sensing
Ever since it was invented in the 1960s, the laser has found new areas of use, and is today very useful in research, industry and society. In most laser applications, for example material processing, the laser can be placed very close to the area to be processed. However, there are many important application areas where this is problematic. For example, if you want to use the laser to study an are

Alumn: Fanny Hellgren – Perpetual Pulsation
Fanny Hellgren's solo exhibition features several paintings from the artist's latest series. The astonishing canvases radiate soothing and pleasant feelings and by contemplating these non-figurative compositions one after another, one can sense a continuous rhythm. A pulsation, emanating from layers upon layers of acrylic paint, attracts us to track and understand its language and the dialogue tha

Tiny, fatty and vital – meet the medicine courier of the future
When the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the world in 2020, the mRNA vaccines came to the rescue of many people – but in the background there was another, lesser known, hero: the lipid nanoparticle. Without these tiny “fat droplets”, the vaccines could never have been delivered into the body’s cells. And the fact is that these small particles will probably have more assignments in the future. It co

Towards green software: tackling the energy cost of scientific software
Research in particle physics often relies on sizable, cutting-edge computing resources for analysing large datasets, producing simulation samples, or developing and running complex machine learning models. While particle physics has been a pioneer in dealing with many “big science” issues and raised the stakes in the Large Hadron Collider era, today it is by no means isolated. More and more researc
