Translating trust as a magic concept in public sector reforms: A comparative study of the Danish and Swedish trust reform

In response to growing criticism of new public management reforms, the Nordic countries have introduced so-called trust reforms aimed at transforming public sector management and leadership. There is, however, scarce knowledge about the role of organizational concepts in national trust reform and how they are translated, not least in a comparative perspective. This study offers an in-depth analysi

Structure, Temporality, and Theories of Revolution. Reading Alberto Melucci in Revolutionary Saint Domingue, 1791–1804

This article addresses the debate on structure, agency, and process in contemporary revolution theory, drawing on social movement theory and using the Haitian Revolution as an illustrative case. The article seeks to make three main contributions. Firstly, while accepting the critique against the failure of structuralist revolution theory to explain why revolutions can occur under difficult circumsThis article addresses the debate on structure, agency, and process in contemporary revolution theory, drawing on social movement theory and using the Haitian Revolution as an illustrative case. Riverine sources of bioreactive macroelements and their impact on bacterioplankton metabolism in a recipient boreal estuary

The loading of macroelements such as, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), totalnitrogen (N) and total phosphorus (P) from terrestrial soils to aquatic systems isincreasing in the northern hemisphere. This phenomenon has several ecologicaland biogeochemical consequences for inland and coastal water systems, which arelinked to bacterial cycling of DOC, N and P. During growth, bacteria assimilatemacroeleThe loading of terrestrially derived macroelements, such as dissolved organic carbon (DOC), total nitrogen (N), and total phosphorus (P), to inland and estuarine waters is increasing in the northern hemisphere. Thesemacroelements often limit heterotrophic bacterioplankton metabolism (production and respiration), which in turn influence food web structures, exchange of greenhouse gases between the

Seasonal variation of hours worked in home-based industrial production : Evidence from Sweden 1912

This study investigates patterns of seasonal variation in hours worked by women employed in home-based industrial production in Sweden in the early 20th century. Previous studies often describe workers in this type of production as the most flexible segment of industrial workers, and highly dependent on seasonal fluctuations in supply and demand. However, few have studied this empirically. Spatiotemporal historical datasets on micro-level for geocoded individuals in five Swedish parishes, 1813-1914

The datasets presented here enable historical longitudinal studies of micro-level geographic factors in a rural setting. These types of datasets are new, as historical demography studies have generally failed to properly include the micro-level geographic factors. Our datasets describe the geography over five Swedish rural parishes and a geocoded population (at the property unit level) for this arThe datasets presented here enable historical longitudinal studies of micro-level geographic factors in a rural setting. Identification of Particles in Exhaled Air Using Mass Spectrometry

PURPOSE: Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) as a form of chronic lung allograft dysfunction is a limiting factor to the survival of lung transplant recipients. Detection and monitoring of chronic rejection is hampered by a lack of clinically available markers. Particles in exhaled air (PExA) is proposed as a noninvasive means of potentially identifying and observing BOS patients. This pilot s

Taming the Prophets : Astrology, Orthodoxy and the Word of God in Early Modern Sweden

Popular Abstract in English In May 1619, the Finnish astrologer Sigfridus Aronus Forsius (d. 1624) was examined by clerical authorities. In the verdict, astrology was rejected as a pagan craft, forbidden for any Christian. Yet still astrology was inseparable from the scholarly conception of the world. The principles of astral influence were more or less self-evident in physical theory and in medicThe purpose of this thesis is to analyse a displacement of the limits between allowable and illicit knowledge in the orthodox, Lutheran discourse of early modern Sweden. Focusing on the debate over astrology, exemplified in the works of Laurentius Paulinus Gothus (1565-1646) and Sigfridus Aronus Forsius (d. 1624), the thesis aims to challenge the view of how the Reformation, regarded as a prelimin

Maternal drug use during pregnancy and asthma risk among children.

Maternal use of some drugs, notably paracetamol and drugs for gastroesophageal reflux, has been associated with an increased risk of childhood asthma in the child. We wanted to analyze these associations with consideration to the confounding of maternal asthma.

Impaired β-Amyloid Secretion in Alzheimer's Disease Pathogenesis.

A central question in Alzheimer's disease (AD) research is what role β-amyloid peptide (Aβ) plays in synaptic dysfunction. Synaptic activity increases Aβ secretion, potentially inhibiting synapses, but also decreases intraneuronal Aβ, protecting synapses. We now show that levels of secreted Aβ fall with time in culture in neurons of AD-transgenic mice, but not wild-type mice. Moreover, the ability

Normalising Non-Normativity?

In this study five upper-secondary school teachers have been interviewed on their methods for teaching on and integrating aspects of sex education in their respective subjects. The aim has been to examine how participants relate to norm-critical aspects that are part of the general syllabus and guidelines on teaching sex education as well as how their methods relate to non-normative and anti-oppre

Taphonomic Markers and 3D-Modelling - A Non-Intrusive Method for Micromorphological Distinction of Metal and Stone Butchering Tools

Digital tools in (zoo)archaeology have great potential for education, mediation, and research. Microphotogrammetric 3D-modeling offers new non-intrusive analytical approaches to old problems and questions. This thesis aimed to perform morphological differentiation between cut marks made from lithic and metal tool using qualitative and statistical quantitative approaches (Principal Component Analys

EFFECTS OF SLOW ADAPTATION OF HIGH TECH SECURITY SOLUTIONS TO THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF UGANDA

High Tech security solutions refer to advanced and innovative technologies designed to protect assets, data and individuals from various threats. These systems offer benefits that traditional security measures cannot match. Examples of high Technology security solutions include Biometric Access Control that uses fingerprints, iris and facial recognition, Surveillance drones with cameras for monito

Navigating Uncertainty and Negotiating Trust in Judicial Deliberations

Autonomy and independence are key features of legal decision-making. Yet, decision-making in court is fundamentally interactional and collective, both during the information gathering phase of hearings, and in evaluations during deliberations. Depending on legal system and type of court, deliberations can include different constellations of lay judges, jurors, or judge panels. In this article, we

Time, stress, and control in paratransit services : older passengers’ experiences and strategies

Paratransit services support individuals with limited mobility by providing access to healthcare, errands, and social activities. While designed to be enabling, these services impose temporal demands that require the user’s active engagement, such as booking in time and coordinating with other support services.
