Cellobiose dehydrogenase on electrodes - an electrochemical biosensor for various analytes tunable by positive charges

Popular Abstract in English Enzymes are nanometer sized work units made up of proteins. Each of the thousands of the existing enzymes are produced by the cells of every living organism. They carry out certain functions as putting molecules together, e. g. connect sugar units to form cellulose for a growing tree or destroy molecules, e. g. degrade cellulose into its sugar units to eat and live on tCellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) is a sugar oxidizing enzyme secreted by various species of wood degrading fungi to assist the process of wood degradation. It can oxidise analytically relevant sugars as cellobiose, lactose or glucose leading to a gain of two electrons per sugar molecule. CDH consists of a flavin containing catalytic domain (DH) and a haem containing electron mediating domain (CYT).

Carbon metabolism in non-conventional yeasts: biodiversity, origins of aerobic fermentation and industrial applications

Abstract: For millennia, the “yeast” Saccharomyces cerevisiae remains by far the most extensively studied and exploited yeast in food and industrial applications. A number of researches and developments have been done since the establishment of the biochemical function of yeast by Louis Pasteur in 1860, however modern lifestyles often connected to food related health trends demand new and innovati

Modeling of nucleation and growth in glass-forming alloys using a combination of classical and phase-field theory

For metallic glasses, it is of vital importance to understand the glass formation properties and to be able to predict the crystallization process in the supercooled liquid. In the present work, we model the process of nucleation and growth using a combination of classical nucleation and phase-field theory. A diffusion coupled phase-field model is used to evaluate the work of formation and the gro

Multiparton Interaction Models and Parton Shower Studies

This thesis involves phenomenological models for describing high energy particle collisions. One class of these models, multiparton interactions (MPI), deals with the fact that when colliding two hadrons, it is possible for more than one pair of their constituents to interact. The other deals with parton showers, which are used to fill enhanced regions of phase space and give fully exclusive final

Impact of endometriosis and/or adenomyosis on cumulative live birth rates under three consecutive in vitro fertilisation treatments

Objectives:To determine the cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) under three consecutive in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatments in women with endometriosis and/or adenomyosis. Methods:A prospective cohort study of 1035 women aged 25–≤39 years undergoing up to three consecutive IVF treatments between January 2019 and April 2024. All women underwent an advanced transvaginal ultrasound examination prior

The struggle of leadership work: Three interactional challenges in mobilizing actors to commit to future action

Although it is widely recognized that leadership concerns organizing future actions and mobilizing organizational actors to pursue them, our understanding of how this is accomplished in situated work interactions is relatively limited. Recent ethnographic studies have focused on leadership work resulting in the emergence of direction. This study explores the efforts involved in attempting to mobil

Biotechnology and genetic engineering raise a number of new ethical problems. Consequently, over the past 15 years, several European countries, including the Nordic countries, have passed new laws in an attempt to deal with the ethical problems posed by biotechnology. These developments raise the question of how to formulate legislation to regulate both the technical and ethical aspects of biotech

Defining authenticity in product design

Now, more than ever, we are told that 'authenticity' is an added value that customers want. The objective of this study is to determine what kind of authenticity is relevant to design, and whether it can be used as a standardised procedure to improve product design. In this study industrial designers were interviewed about their views on authenticity. The paper represents the combined result of a

The Role of Public Transport in Society—A Case Study of General Policy Documents in Sweden

The aim of this paper is to study how local governments in Sweden view the role of public transport in society, and to investigate how public transport is used in a strategic capacity. By studying general policy documents, the ambition is to gain a wider understanding of the role of public transport based on the societal context it is situated in. Documents from 15 regions and 27 municipalities ha

Grain boundary and particle interaction: Enveloping and pass-through mechanisms studied by 3D phase field crystal simulations

Grain boundary interaction with second-phase particles having different degrees of coherency is investigated using the phase field crystal (PFC) method. Both the enveloping and pass-through mechanisms are studied with regards to grain boundary pressure, passage time and interface evolution. It is found that coherent particles exert a stronger retardation effect on grain boundaries compared to inco

Does you mean I? : Generic du (‘you’) as a case of informalization and subjectification in Swedish

In Swedish today, du (‘you’) is sometimes used with generic reference. This use of generic du is often claimed to be a new invention, triggered by English influence in the late 20th century. However, in this article an analysis of occurrences of du from the period 1225–2013 is presented that demonstrates that generic du was used even as early as the Old Swedish period (1225–1526), i.e. long befor
