Integrating research into practice: A challenge for local authority occupational therapy.

The aim of this qualitative study was to identify and analyse the experiences of Swedish local health authority occupational therapists with regard to their participation in, and the implementation of, research. Data were collected from three focus-group interviews, with five different occupational therapists in each. The interviews were taped and transcribed and thereafter analysed using broad co

Linkage maps in studies of genetic variation - examples from Beta vulgaris

Today, most studies of genetic variation utilise molecular markers, making it possible to detect variation at the DNA level. This has greatly facilitated studies of genetic variation in population and evolutionary genetics, systematics and transmission genetics. By studying the inheritance of molecular markers in crosses, it is possible to map the markers, i.e. to determine their genomic positions

Benchmarking e-learning in higher education and beyond

Benchmarking is a powerful strategic tool used to assist decision makers to improve the quality and effectiveness of organisational processes. Even in Higher Education nowadays, benchmarking is used as a tool for quality enhancement. This paper explores the results from a study on international benchmarking on elearning in higher education. The study explicitly showed the value and impact of the m

DGAT-onco : A differential analysis method to detect oncogenes by integrating functional information of mutations

It is a common strategy to predict oncogenes by differential analysis between somatic mutations and background mutations. Most previous methods only utilize mutations in the cancer population to model its background mutation, which have an obvious bias. A recent method, DiffMut, improves this issue by conducting differential mutational analysis with both mutations in the cancer population and the

MajoriteteAbstract Background: An increasing number of people are fleeing their home countries due to war, threats, or persecution, seeking refuge in host countries. Undocumented individuals are part of this group, constituting an extremely vulnerable population in Europe, both in healthcare settings and among the public. They often receive unequal treatment and are at risk of poorer health outcomes compare

Kvinnors ledarskap i socialt arbete - En undersökning av kvinnors upplevelser som ledare i socialt arbete

This paper aims to examine women as formal leaders in social work, focusing on their own experiences, perceptions, and management of expectations regarding leadership and how expectations affect the practice of their leadership. This paper is based on a gender perspective where the focus is on examining the importance of gender and gender in relation to, among other things, expectations and ideals

Binary Forward-Only Algorithms

Today, the overwhelming majority of Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile edge devices have extreme resource limitations, e.g., in terms of computing, memory, and energy. As a result, training Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) using the complex Backpropagation (BP) algorithm on such edge devices presents a major challenge. Forward-only algorithms have emerged as more computation- and memory-efficient alte

Lawless but not normless : An explorative study on formal and informal control in Darknet forums

Darknet constitutes a part of the internet with a reputation for allowing deviance and criminality. In short, it is often understood as a place where anything goes. Current research on Darknet tends to focus on illicit cryptomarkets, however in this ongoing doctoral research project, I explore how user posts and behaviors are informally and formally controlled and shaped on Darknet forums. Moreove

Evaluation of TH-Cre knock-in cell lines for detection and specific targeting of stem cell-derived dopaminergic neurons

The focal and progressive degeneration of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in ventral midbrain has made Parkinson's disease (PD) a particularly interesting target of cell-based therapies. However, ethical issues and limited tissue availability have so far hindered the widespread use of human fetal tissue in cell-replacement therapy. DA neurons derived from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) offer unpre

Pulp and paper industry

The EU ETS was the first international policy instrument to introduce regulation of CO2 emissions of pulp and paper companies with installations in Europe. Out of 11, 500 installations introduced to the system about 900 were pulp and paper mills. In terms of allocated emission allowances (EUAs) the pulp and paper industry (hereafter PPI) represents two per cent of the EU ETS (Hyvärinen 2005: 40).

Effect of aging on cerebral tissue oxygenation in relation to reflex syncope

Background: There is an increased susceptibility to syncope with aging attributed to age-related physiological impairments. Cerebral oxime-try non-invasively measures cerebral tissue oxygenation (SctO2) and has been shown to be valuable in syncope evaluation. SctO2 has beenfound to decrease with aging but it is unknown whether the decrease in SctO2 is related to increased susceptibility to syncope

Seismic velocity of P-waves to evaluate strength of stabilized soil for Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget Biorefinery Östrand AB, Timrå

Evaluating soil strength by geophysical methods using P-waves was undertaken in this study to assess the effects of changed binder ratios on stabilization and compression characteristics. The materials included dredged sediments collected in the seabed of Timrå region, north Sweden. The Portland cement (Basement CEM II/A-V, SS EN 197-1) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) were used as

The matrisome landscape controlling in vivo germ cell fates

The developmental fate of cells is regulated by intrinsic factors and the extracellular environment. The extracellular matrix (matrisome) delivers chemical and mechanical cues that can modify cellular development. However, comprehensive understanding of how matrisome factors control cells in vivo is lacking. Here we show that specific matrisome factors act individually and collectively to control

European Code Against Cancer, 5th edition – outdoor and indoor air pollution and cancer

Most European Union (EU) residents live in areas where outdoor air pollution levels exceed the 2021 World Health Organization (WHO) air quality guidelines for fine particles and nitrogen dioxide. Outdoor air pollution is classified as carcinogenic to humans, and both outdoor and indoor air contain established human carcinogens, including diesel exhaust particulates, benzo(a)pyrene [B(A)P] and benz

Biallelic somatic inactivation of the NF1 gene through chromosomal translocations in a sporadic neurofibroma

Neurofibroma is a benign tumor originating from Schwann cells in peripheral nerve sheaths and may occur as a sporadic tumor or as part of the dominantly inherited tumor syndrome NF1. NF1 is caused by constitutional mutations in the NF1 gene, located in chromosome band 17q11 Whereas the involvement of the NF1 gene in neurofibroma development in NF1 patients has been fairly well characterized, the s

Expansion of signal pathways in the ectomycorrhizal fungus Laccaria bicolor- evolution of nucleotide sequences and expression patterns in families of protein kinases and RAS small GTPases.

* The ectomycorrhizal fungus Laccaria bicolor has the largest genome of all fungi yet sequenced. The large genome size is partly a result of an expansion of gene family sizes. Among the largest gene families are protein kinases and RAS small guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases), which are key components of signal transduction pathways. * Comparative genomics and phylogenetic analyses were used to e

Hormonal contraception increases the risk of psychotropic drug use in adolescent girls but not in adults : A pharmacoepidemiological study on 800 000 Swedish women

The burden of depression and anxiety disorders is greater in women, and female sex hormones have been shown to affect mood. Psychological side effects of hormonal contraception (HC) are also a common complaint in the clinic, but few previous studies have investigated this subject. We therefore wanted to investigate whether use of HC was associated with adverse psychological health outcomes, and wh
