Multi-User Processing for Ray-Based Channels

The performance of linear multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems has been extensively studied for classical statistical channel models. In contrast, there is little analysis for ray-based models, which are physically motivated, feature prominently in standards and have been experimentally validated. Thus, we present a novel analysis framework for zero forcing (ZF) and maximal

The GALAH Survey : Second data release

The Galactic Archaeology with HERMES (GALAH) survey is a large-scale stellar spectroscopic survey of theMilkyWay, designed to deliver complementary chemical information to a large number of stars covered by the Gaia mission. We present the GALAH second public data release (GALAH DR2) containing 342 682 stars. For these stars, the GALAH collaboration provides stellar parameters and abundances for

Cardiovascular organ damage in type 2 diabetes mellitus : The role of lipids and inflammation

Background: The relationship between dyslipidemia, inflammation and CV organ damage in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is complex. Insulin resistance and inflammatory cytokines interleukins (ILs) increase plasma triglycerides (TG). ILs also up-regulate expression of matrix-metalloproteinases (MMPs) that, together with TG, decrease high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) levels. High TG, low HDL

Association measures of claims-based algorithms for common chronic conditions were assessed using regularly collected data in Japan

OBJECTIVE: Although claims data are widely used in medical research, their ability to identify persons' health-related conditions has not been fully justified. We assessed the validity of claims-based algorithms (CBAs) for identifying people with common chronic conditions in a large population using annual health screening results as the gold standard.STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Using a longitudinal

Compact matrix factorization with dependent subspaces

Traditional matrix factorization methods approximate high dimensional data with a low dimensional subspace. This imposes constraints on the matrix elements which allow for estimation of missing entries. A lower rank provides stronger constraints and makes estimation of the missing entries less ambiguous at the cost of measurement fit. In this paper we propose a new factorization model that further

Polyacrylamides as immobilization supports for use of hydrolytic enzymes in organic media

Polyacrylamide beads and celite were used for immobilization of bovine α-chymotrypsin and lipase B from Candida antarctica. Polyacrylamides with a high degree of cross-linking afforded high catalytic rates when used as immobilization matrices. Derivatization of the polymer with carboxyl and tertiary amino groups prior to immobilization caused no significant changes in α-chymotrypsin behavior. The

Human action laws in electronic virtual worlds: An empirical study of path steering performance in VR

This paper is concerned with simple human performance “laws of action” for three classes of tasks—pointing, crossing, and steering, as well as their applications in Virtual Reality research. In comparison to Fitts' law of pointing, the “law of steering”— the quantitative relationship between human temporal performance and the movement path's spatial characteristics—has been notably under investiga

Key Device Attributes for Injectable Somatostatin Receptor Ligand Therapy in Acromegaly and Neuroendocrine Tumours

Introduction: People living with acromegaly and neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) may be treated with injectable somatostatin receptor ligands (SRLs), administered by either a caregiver or as self-injection via a proprietary or generic device. Injection device attributes that contribute to ease of use and storage, minimise preparation requirements, and reduce injection pain are associated with improve

Comparative study on building permit processes in Europe

The issuance of building permits is a crucial process for urban development in accordance with the law and sustainability goals. Building permits in Europe involve a complex tapestry of processes, regulations, and methodologies. Despite its critical role in shaping the urban landscape, detailed investigations of building permitting process have been scarce. This gap in knowledge not only hinders t

Detection of ventricular premature beats based on the pressure signals of a hemodialysis machine

Monitoring of ventricular premature beats (VPBs), being abundant in hemodialysis patients, can provide information on cardiovascular instability and electrolyte imbalance. In this paper, we describe a method for VPB detection which explores the signals acquired from the arterial and the venous pressure sensors, located in the extracorporeal blood circuit of a hemodialysis machine. The pressure sig

Explaining dwell time delays with passenger counts for some commuter trains in Stockholm and Tokyo

In both Stockholm and Tokyo, small dwell time delays of at most 5 min make up around 90% of the total delays for commuter trains. To understand these disturbances, we use high resolution data on dwell times and passenger counts from both countries over the last several years. We find that trains in Tokyo are much more congested than in Stockholm, and that the exchange of passengers is modest at mo
