35 personer deltog i SKÖN-projektet (självkänsla över nätet) som pågick under seThe purpose of this pilot study was to examine if a CBT-based guided self-help treatment administered online for people suffering from low self-esteem was associated with a change in self-esteem and life satisfaction. The study was quasi-experimental, without control groups or randomization. Participants were measured pre- and post-treatment. The study revealed a result that was statistically sign

Transcriptional profiling demonstrates altered characteristics of CD8 + cytotoxic T-cells and regulatory T-cells in TP53-mutated acute myeloid leukemia

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients have limited effect from T-cell-based therapies, such as PD-1 and CTLA-4 blockade. However, recent data indicate that AML patients with TP53 mutation have higher immune infiltration and other immunomodulatory therapies could thus potentially be effective. Here, we performed the transcriptional analysis of distinct T-cell subpopulations from TP53-mu

The use, adherence, and evaluation of interactive text-messaging among women admitted to prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV care in Kenya (WelTel PMTCT)

BackgroundTo improve future mobile health (mHealth) interventions in resource-limited settings, knowledge of participants’ adherence to interactive interventions is needed, but previous studies are limited. We aimed to investigate how women in prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) care in Kenya used, adhered to, and evaluated an interactive text-messaging intervention.MethodsWeBackground: To improve future mobile health (mHealth) interventions in resource-limited settings, knowledge of participants’ adherence to interactive interventions is needed, but previous studies are limited. International Environmental Law and the Search for Harmony with Nature: A Critical Inquiry into the Metaphysical Underpinnings of the Legal Discourse on Environmental Protection

For some time now, the world in general and international law in particular have witnessed one and the same widespread call for action. Both public and private interests claim that present-day standards and technology have proven insufficient for saving the natural environment. From this claim has emerged a call that entreats us to approach the problem of the deteriorating natural environment by i

Implications of accounting for land use in simulations of ecosystem carbon cycling in Africa

Dynamic global vegetation models (DGVMs) are important tools for modelling impacts of global change on ecosystem services. However, most models do not take full account of human land management and land use and land cover changes (LULCCs). We integrated croplands and pasture and their management and natural vegetation recovery and succession following cropland abandonment into the LPJ-GUESS DGVM.

Required to be creative : Everyday ways for dealing with inaccessibility

Today’s society promises that people with disabilities can access anything, but in practice there are numerous obstacles, and the ways in which people deal with them can be easily missed or taken for granted by policy makers. This article draws on a project in which researchers ‘go along’ people with disabilities in Sweden who demonstrate and recount accessibility troubles in urban and digital set

Evaluation of zinc status in subjects with Crohn's disease

Zinc status was evaluated in 30 subjects with Crohn's disease. Intestinal resection had previously been performed in 23 of the subjects. The concentrations of zinc were determined in plasma, erythrocytes, percutaneous muscle biopsies, and in urine collected during 24 hours. The results were compared with those in 19 healthy controls. Most of the patients had a normal zinc status. The levels of zinZinc status was evaluated in 30 subjects with Crohn's disease. Protecting Wireless Mesh Networks Against Adverse Weather Conditions

Adverse weather conditions can cause deterioration of wireless channels, leading to reduced link capacities. Unlike in other types of networks, in radio-based wireless mesh networks, the link capacities depend not only on the prevailing conditions, but also on interfering transmissions, as well as the transmission power and modulation and coding schemes used. Population-based cancer survival in the United States : Data, quality control, and statistical methods

BACKGROUND: Robust comparisons of population-based cancer survival estimates require tight adherence to the study protocol, standardized quality control, appropriate life tables of background mortality, and centralized analysis. The CONCORD program established worldwide surveillance of population-based cancer survival in 2015, analyzing individual data on 26 million patients (including 10 million

Risk, Resilience and Insurance in Sudanese Pastoralism

The nomadic pastoralists of the Sahel are often identified as a group at the frontline of global climate change. Their existence in arid and semi-arid regions and their reliance on seasonal rainfall are among the factors that contribute to their vulnerability to drought and climate shocks. This study focuses on risks to pastoralists in Sudan, asking whether index-based livestock insurance, an innoPastoralism is a nomadic lifestyle and a livelihood system that revolves around raising livestock. By migrating seasonally in search of water and pasture for their animals, pastoralists are able to inhabit and make productive use some of the world’s harshest environments. In Sudan, where over 90% of the vast land area is covered by desert and drylands, pastoralism remains a vital feature of the co

The need to focus on plastic in terrestrial environments: Do micro- and nanoplastic affect microorganisms in soil?

Allmänheten har visat stort intresse kring plastproblematiken i haven och mycket forskniThis study aims to investigate if micro- and nanoparticles of polystyrene affect microorganisms in soil. This was tested by using microfluidic chips, which are new for investigation of soil ecology questions, providing artificial channels reflecting soil conditions as well as being transparent for seeing real-time interactions. Eight microfluidic chips were made; four were filled with a micro- and

De digitala intäkterna lyckas dock inte väga upp för de förluster utgivarna lider av den nedåtgående försälIn today's digitized society, publishers of legacy printed media face major financial hardships in the sale of newspapers and other magazines. Thus, most publishers today have made their publications available to readers online. However, digital revenues do not make up for the losses that the publishers suffer from the decreasing sales of printed media. This can in part be attributed to the fa
