Hur synliggörs barnperspektivet i kontaktfamiljsprocessen? : en undersökning med fokus på avslutningen

The most common preventive and treatment service for children in child welfare services in Sweden is the contact family program. The number of children who are involved in the program has steadily increased. Usually it is a single mother who apply for or is offered this service. The aim with a contact family is that the parent should get respite and that the child should have its network enlarged

En rättvisande bild av biblioteken? Problem och möjligheter kring folkbibliotekens verksamhetsberättelser

The purpose of this master´s thesis was to investigate the role and function of the annual reports of public libraries: for what purpose are they put together and how are they evaluated and utilised. The study presents different views on the structure and content of library annual reports. Focusing on a specific public library and its municipal administration, the authors identify and describe pro

Linguistic relativity in SLA : Towards a new research program

The purpose of the current article is to support the investigation of linguistic relativity in second language acquisition and sketch methodological and theoretical prerequisites toward developing the domain into a full research program. We identify and discuss three theoretical-methodological components that we believe are needed to succeed in this enterprise. First, we highlight the importance o

Sanctity and Female Authorship : Birgitta of Sweden & Catherine of Siena

Birgitta of Sweden (Birgitta Birgersdotter, 1302/03-1373) and her younger contemporary Catherine of Siena (Caterina Benincasa, 1347-1380) form the most powerful and influential female duo in European history. Both enjoyed saintly reputations in life, while acting as the charismatic leaders of a considerable group of followers consisting of clergy as well as mighty secular men and women. They are a

From production planning flows to manufacturing operation management KPIs : linking ISO18828 & ISO22400 standards

International standards are playing a key role in leading and shaping the smart manufacturing landscape. The integration and consistency among different standards is therefore essential to effectively support industrial automation evolution and to ensure their applicability. This paper focuses on the ISO18828 and ISO22400 standards, related to the production planning process and manufacturing, con

Enabling entrepreneurial empowerment through a three-day entrepreneurship camp

The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of a 3-day entrepreneurship camp on nursing students’ empowerment to act entrepreneurially. Data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews with 17 nursing students conducted both before and after the camp. The data also included student drawings, as well as documents and interviews with 10 stakeholder representatives. Our findi

Bladder and upper urinary tract cancers as first and second primary cancers

Background: Previous population-based studies on second primary cancers (SPCs) in urothelial cancers have focused on known risk factors in bladder cancer patients without data on other urothelial sites of the renal pelvis or ureter. Aims: To estimate sex-specific risks for any SPCs after urothelial cancers, and in reverse order, for urothelial cancers as SPCs after any cancer. Such two-way analysi

IFSI-Guideline on Chronic Prurigo including Prurigo nodularis.

Chronic prurigo (CPG) is a highly burdensome pruritic disease characterized by chronic itch, a prolonged scratching behavior and the development of localized or generalized hyperkeratotic pruriginous lesions. Neuronal sensitization and the development of an itch-scratch cycle contribute to the augmentation of pruritus and the chronicity of the disease. We provide here the first international guide

An improved high-performance liquid chromatography process for the large-scale production of paclitaxel

The purification of crude (60.89% pure) paclitaxel was developed for high purity and yield. Several solvent systems, including methanol (MeOH), acetone, tetrahydrofurane, n-hexane, and water, were evaluated for precipitation efficiency. The best results were obtained using a mixture of MeOH and water, which was very effective at removing polar impurities, yielding a precipitate with 90.87% purity.

Social-class differences in spacing and stopping during the historical fertility transition: Insights from cure models

Background: There is a long-standing debate about the role of spacing and stopping in the fertility transition, fueled by a lack of methods to appropriately model spacing and stopping. Traditional event-history analysis cannot distinguish between the two processes in analyzing the determinants of birth risks, and attempts to separately model spacing and stopping have been criticized from a methodo

A new imaging technology based on Compton X-ray scattering

A feasible implementation of a novel X-ray detector for highly energetic X-ray photons with a large solid angle coverage, optimal for the detection of Compton X-ray scattered photons, is described. The device consists of a 20 cm-thick sensitive volume filled with xenon at atmospheric pressure. When the Compton-scattered photons interact with the xenon, the released photoelectrons create clouds of

Neighbourhood socioeconomic status and pain among older adults—A cross-sectional study

Background: Pain is associated with falls, disability and a poor quality of life among older adults. It is highly prevalent in many societies, and studies have shown that pain could be preventable or managed more effectively at the population level. However, few studies have investigated who is at higher risk of pain in the general population, which is important for development of effective interv

Time–Frequency Signatures of Electronic Coherence of Colloidal CdSe Quantum Dot Dimer Assemblies Probed at Room Temperature by Two-Dimensional Electronic Spectroscopy

Electronic coherence signatures can be directly identified in the time–frequency maps measured in two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES). Here, we demonstrate the theory and discuss the advantages of this approach via the detailed application to the fast-femtosecond beatings of a wide variety of electronic coherences in ensemble dimers of quantum dots (QDs), assembled from QDs of 3 nm in d

Simulating the Punctuality Impacts of Early Freight Train Departures

Railway traffic usually adheres to a timetable, but in Sweden, around two-thirds of the freight trains depart before they are scheduled, often by hours. Even though they occur in real operations, early departures have rarely been included in simulation studies and the effects on punctuality are not fully investigated. With a macroscopic simulation tool such as PROTON, large networks can be simulat

Does shale gas development impact property values in Central Appalachia? A mixed methods critical exploration

Increased shale gas extraction through hydraulic fracturing and its distribution through shale gas pipelines have brought about innumerable socioeconomic consequences, both tangibly and intangibly. Evidence remains unclear on what are the impacts of shale gas developments on property values. By employing a mixed method approach, combining original data collected in the Marcellus Shale through inte

Advances in carbon dioxide and propylene oxide copolymerization to form poly(propylene carbonate) over heterogeneous catalysts

Chemical conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added products is an attractive industrial process because it offers several economic and environmental advantages. This review presents advances and challenges in the CO2 and propylene oxide (PO) co-polymerization using heterogeneous catalysts to form poly (propylene carbonate) (PPC), an environmentally friendly polymer with several applicati

Islamizing the present, challenging the past

The trajectories of politically activist and socially committed interpretations of Islam in (late)modern societies continue to spur heated debate and academic discussion. A recurrent theme is the compatibility of Islamic ideological/legal foundations vis-à-vis secular state institutions and liberal democracy. Other debates concern rights and identity politics, problematizing the recognition of relThe trajectories of politically activist and socially committed interpretations of Islam in (late)modern societies continue to spur heated debate and academic discussion. A combined algorithm for automated drainage network extraction from digital elevation models

Drainage networks are the basis for segmentation of watersheds, an essential component in hydrological modelling, biogeochemical applications, and resource management plans. With the rapidly increasing availability of topographic information as digital elevation models (DEMs), there have been many studies on DEM-based drainage network extraction algorithms. Most of traditional drainage network ext
