Laser-induced fluorescence imaging for studies of cultural heritage - art. no. 66180P
Laser-induced fluorescence for remote imaging of historical monuments is an established technique, which in this work has been used in measurement campaigns at the Coliseum and the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome, Italy. The results presented here are examples that show that biodeteriogens can be monitored and that. materials can be identified. Also, cleaned and soiled areas on the
3D DCIP techniques for detection of internal defects in the Älvkarleby test dam
This study explores the effectiveness of combining Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) and Induced Polarization (IP) for identifying internal erosion processes in embankment dams. A small-scale test dam was built in Älvkarleby, Sweden, with deliberately embedded but undisclosed defects to test monitoring capabilities. Daily ERT and IP measurements were collected during 4.5-year years, and anal

The chemical evolution of the Galactic Bulge seen through micro-lensing events
Galactic bulges are central to understanding galaxy formation and evolution. Here we report on recent studies using micro-lensing events to obtain spectra of high resolution and moderately high signal-to-noise ratios of dwarf stars in the Galactic bulge. Normally this is not feasible for the faint turn-off stars in the Galactic bulge, but micro-lensing offers this possibility. Elemental abundance

Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has one of the worst survival rates among adult cancers, with only 11% in the United States surviving five years after diagnosis. The majority of patients are diagnosed with late-stage disease, since early-stage pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is typically either asymptomatic or presents with non-specific symptoms. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma thus remains a h

Atomic calculations inspired by the GHRS - gf-values, hyperfine structure constants, and isotope shifts for heavy elements
GHRS observations of chemically peculiar stars have initiated a new project for calculating atomic properties of heavy elements (Z approximate to 80). The method used is based on large-scale, fully relativistic MCDF, and the data involve accurate gf-values, hyperfine structure parameters, and relative isotope shifts.

ACOUSTIC PARTICLE FOCUSING IN POLYMER MICROFLUIDIC DEVICES
An acoustofluidic device, consisting of a polymer chip with a long straight channel, coupled to a piezoelectric transducer is modeled numerically in three dimensions and compared to experimental results in terms of the electric admittance as well as the ability to focus particles. In our experiments we obtain good acoustic particle focusing at a frequency of f = 1.14 MHz with an actuation voltage
Processing and characterization of nanowire arrays for photodetectors
We present a fabrication scheme of contacting arrays of vertically standing nanowires (NW) for LEDs (Duan et al. Nature 409:66–69, 2001), photodetectors (Wang et al. Science (NY) 293:1455–1457, 2001) or solar cell applications (Wallentin et al. Science (NY) 339:1057–1060, 2013). Samples were prepared by depositing Au films using nano-imprint lithography (Ma rtensson et al. Nano Lett 4:699–702, 200
Second-order constraints in dynamic invariant inference
The current generation of dynamic invariant detectors often produce invariants that are inconsistent with program semantics or programmer knowledge. We improve the consistency of dynamically discovered invariants by taking into account higher-level constraints. These constraints encode knowledge about invariants, even when the invariants themselves are unknown. For instance, even though the invari

Industrial Alloys Studied by Surface Sensitive Techniques
This thesis reports on surface studies of industrial materials whose importance for society manifests in the vast range of applications. In industrial materials alloying is performed in order to improve the parent material's physical and mechanical properties such as strength, corrosion and wear resistance, as well as high temperature performance in comparison to the pure metal.Even though metals
Aggregation of value judgments differs from aggregation of preferences
My focus is on aggregation of individual value rankings of alternatives to a collective value ranking. This is compared with aggregation o individual prefrences to a collective preference. While in an individual preference ranking the alternatives are ordered in accordance with one’s preferences, the order in a value ranking expresses one’s comparative evaluation of the alternatives, from the best

Single-cell mass-density measurements using microchannel gradient centrifugation
We present a microchannel-based adaption of density-gradient centrifugation that allows the instantaneous, precise, and repeatable generation of a 1-dimensional mass-density gradient and determination of single-cell densities with integrated mass-density calibration.
