Adopting the EU Constitution: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

The purpose of this paper is to determine whether the Treaty to Establish a Constitution for Europe contains the basic and essential constitutional values necessary to safeguard citizens' fundamental rights. This is a significant question since any legal instrument that claims to have constitutional values for the benefit of its citizens should contain certain elements that protect its citizen

Redesign of the fuel dispenser Global Star

This master thesis was performed at Lund Institute of Technology and Dresser Wayne Pignone, Malmö. It aims to achieve two new design concepts for fuel dispensers, which is Dresser Wayne’s main business area. The dispenser, Global Star, which was to be redesigned is a C-style model and should remain so, i.e. have the hoses located on one side of the hydraulic cabinet. This cabinet fits the hydrauli

Extraterritorial Obligations in a Warming World: An International Human Rights Perspective on Climate Change in Maldives

With the scientific evidence for extensive anthropogenic climate change continuously growing stronger, the human dimension of its projected impacts is getting more and more attention. The perhaps clearest example of this is the growing interest in human rights aspects of climate change. Within the United Nations, Maldives - a small island developing country in the Indian Ocean and home to 386,000

Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Duration of Carriage

Den vanligaste orsaken till blodförgiftning är bakterier som har kommit in i blodet från uriIn human medicine, the most important family of bacteria is Enterobacteriaceae, which includes genera and species that cause well-defined diseases and also nosocomial infections. These bacteria can give rise to numerous infections such as septicaemia and urinary tract infections. It is important to combat these infections with effective antibiotics, because many of them are associated with high mo

Cellobiose dehydrogenase on electrodes - an electrochemical biosensor for various analytes tunable by positive charges

Popular Abstract in English Enzymes are nanometer sized work units made up of proteins. Each of the thousands of the existing enzymes are produced by the cells of every living organism. They carry out certain functions as putting molecules together, e. g. connect sugar units to form cellulose for a growing tree or destroy molecules, e. g. degrade cellulose into its sugar units to eat and live on tCellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH) is a sugar oxidizing enzyme secreted by various species of wood degrading fungi to assist the process of wood degradation. It can oxidise analytically relevant sugars as cellobiose, lactose or glucose leading to a gain of two electrons per sugar molecule. CDH consists of a flavin containing catalytic domain (DH) and a haem containing electron mediating domain (CYT).

Fish foraging under visual constraints

Popular Abstract in Swedish De optiska egenskaperna i våra sjöar och vattendrag förändras kontinuerligt. Näringsrika sjöar blir grumliga genom algblomningar och erosion gör vattnet grumligt av lerpartiklar. De senaste årtiondena vattnet också blivit brunare genom att mer humusämnen läcker från omkringliggande mark. Både grumligt och humöst brunt vatten försämrar fiskens siktförhållande, men det skVisual conditions are changing in several different ways. Some lakes are getting turbid due to eutrophication or erosion while others are getting browner due to brownification. These two types of visual degradation results in completely different optical properties of lakes. Turbid water scatter light which degrades image quality severely while brown coloured humic water mainly absorb light making

Utilization of Wild Fruit in Mozambique – Drying of Vangueria infausta (African medlar)

Popular Abstract in English In Mozambique, many wild fruit species occur naturally in forest environments. Most of the wild fruits are consumed fresh because of their short shelf-life when ripe. Forests play an important role in rural communities as a source of food and medicinal and social/cultural services and also provide a source of income when fruits are sold at local markets. Some parts of MVangueria infausta (African medlar) is a wild fruit found in southern and central Mozambique. The ripe fruit has a leathery skin enclosing three to five seeds embedded in a soft pulp that tastes like apple. It plays an important role in the diet of the rural population and has the potential for commercial use. The fruit is mostly eaten fresh, and sometimes mixed with porridges, but in some parts

Experiments to identify new business models

This report compiles the findings of two business experiment surveys, conducted under CIRCUSOL Task 2.4. The experiments investigated customer preferences for two relatively novel market segments for circular photovoltaics, specifically (1) solar-powered charging stations for shared micro-mobility services, and (2) PV-systems for home-charging of electric vehicles. The experiments used the method

Lifestyle and glycaemic control before and after the onset of type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex disease with widespread physiological insults to the regulation of metabolic homeostasis, above all glycaemic regulation. The pathogenesis of T2D and its progression is broadly understood to be through a gradual decrease in peripheral insulin sensitivity, a compensatory rise in insulin secretion, and a gradual decline in beta-cell function, resulting in glycaemic

Housing Matters for People with Parkinson´s disease. Accessibility, Meaning, Control and Activities of Daily Living

Parkinson´s disease (PD) is one of the most common neurological diseases with both motor and non-motor symptoms that can be perceived as difficult to control despite medical treatment. This leads to several consequences in everyday life for example difficulties in activities of daily living (ADL), sometimes already at diagnosis. Therefore, rehabilitation is important to manage the consequences of
