Crosstalk between colorectal cancer cells and tumour-associated macrophages

Patients with Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. People suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohns’ disease and ulcerative colitis, are at an increased risk of developing CRC. The development of CRC is highly influenced by the tumour microenvironment. Tumour cells are able to recruit macrophages and change their beh

The Swedish custody regulations can be found in the Children and Parents Code. These rules have gone through a huge development during the modern times. This essay aims to illustrate which changes has been made and the perspectives behind them. The regulation has gone from joint custody for married parents only, to a presumption that joint custody always shall apply and on to that the custody shal

Strategic ignorance of health risk: its causes and policy consequences

We examine the causes and policy implications of strategic (willful) ignorance of risk as an excuse to overengage in risky health behavior. In an experiment on Copenhagen adults, we allow subjects to choose whether to learn the calorie content of a meal before consuming it, and measure their subsequent calorie intake. Consistent with previous studies, we find strong evidence of strategic ignoranceWe examine the causes and policy implications of strategic (willful) ignorance of risk as an excuse to over-engage in risky health behavior. Low micromolar inhibitors of galectin-3 based on 3'-derivatization of N-acetyllactosamine.

A strategy for generating potential galectin inhibitors was devised based on derivatization at the C-3′ atom in 3′-amino-N-acetyllactosamine by using structural knowledge of the galectin carbohydrate recognition site. A collection of 12 compounds was prepared by N-acylations or N-sulfonylations. Hydrophobic tagging of the O-3 atom in the N-acetylglucosamine residue with a stearic ester allowed rap

Double Taxation Treaties’ Impact on Intermediate Trade

The aim of this thesis is to investigate double taxation treaties impact on intermediate trade. Based on a panel data sample of five partner countries and 39 reporter countries over the period 1990-2012, the impact of signing DTTs on imports of intermediate trade in goods between two countries is analysed through a Gravity model. The main results show that DTT signing is associated with an increas

As it takes time for sustainability efforts to bear fruit, companies need to remain committed to the

Desinformation och dödliga sjukdomar

In December 2019, news came from China about a mysterious virus that infected people in the Chinese city of Wuhan. During the following weeks the disease spread further to a number of countries all over the world (DW 2019). The new disease turns out to be very dangerous and highly contagious. Utvärdering av videoanalysmetoder för gångvägar med tillämpning på hörn

Evaluating evacuation experiments is a time consuming work. This report explores the possibilities of an automated time saving procedure with the help of ordinary computer programs and video cameras. Simplifying the procedure means that more types of tests can be made, i.e. walking paths of people turning corners. Trials were performed during two days with fire safety engineering students at the F

AGOA or EBA?

The United States (US) and European Union (EU) both have preferential trade agreements with least developed countries with the aim of increasing trade volumes in order to catalyse development. The US implemented their system, the “African Growth and Opportunity Act” (AGOA) in 2000 and the EU followed with “Everything But Arms” (EBA) in 2001. Since these preference systems have the goal of increasi

Driving the Green: A study on how Swedish transport companies utilize technology to become environmentally sustainable

Increasing CO2 emissions are impacting the environment negatively. There is a common under-standing that the overconsumption of natural resources is no longer acceptable. In Sweden, within the transport sector, heavy and light trucks make up for a large portion of the emis-sions. One way to tackle climate change and reach ecological sustainability, perhaps the most crucial one, is by implementing

Country Reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals—The Politics of Performance Review at the Global-National Nexus

With the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), debates on governance through goal-setting and performance review have gained momentum. In this article, we explore how the politics of performance review played out in public sustainable development reporting at the global-national nexus. By examining the case of Swedish reporting to the United Nations High Level Political Forum in 20

Motivational Interviewing as Evidence-Based Practice? An Example from Sexual Risk Reduction Interventions Targeting Adolescents and Young Adults

This paper critically examines sexual risk reduction interventions, more specifically how they are evaluated and the implications that this has for sexual health policy. The focus is on motivational interviewing (MI) interventions which aim to promote protective behaviors related to sexual risk on the part of young people. MI has become increasingly popular, largely due to it being a highly flexib

Greedy Online Classification of Persistent Market States Using Realized Intraday Volatility Features

In many financial applications, it is important to classify time-series data without any latency while maintaining persistence in the identified states. The authors propose a greedy online classifier that contemporaneously determines which hidden state a new observation belongs to without the need to parse historical observations and without compromising persistence. The Use of Sustainability Criteria : In the Case of the EU Legislation on Biofuels in the Transport Sector

This book is about how sustainability criteria may be used in a legal framework, with the purpose to promote and safeguard sustainable products and their production. The research and analysis in the book are conducted on the basis of the EU approach to use sustainability criteria for biofuels in the transport sector, legally expressed in Directive 2009/28/EC, and its amendments in Directive 2015/1

Rhetorical business : A study of marketing work in the spirit of contradiction

Popular Abstract in English This book investigates marketing work in professional service organizations from a rhetorical perspective. It comes to the conclusion that this work is accomplished by self-reflexive marketers who are reminiscent of the ancient sophists – a diverse group of itinerant advisors whom came to Athens around the fourth century BCE for business reasons. This causes problems when we study marketing practices because the normative discourse of marketing management is not particularly useful for describing the day-to-day work of marketing practitioners. This calls for marketing research from new perspectives. Rhetorical business – A study of marketing work in t
