Lagstiftaren tillåter i Sverige idag 13-16-åringar att arbeta bara i liten utsträckning emedan gruppen som fyllt 16 (samt uppfyllt skolplikten) men ännu inte 18 år omges av betydligt lösare regleringar. I praktiken är målsman den enda som kan förbjuda gymnasieeleven att skaffa sig ett extrajobb.
