Den postreformatoriska katolicismen i Norden : Mission, konversion och alternativa identitetsdiskurser

This article summarizes and discusses some results of my earlier research focusing on the Catholic mission in Scandinavia and the alternative identity discourses that this missionary activity created. It also discusses Catholic gender discourses and ideals of masculinity. Diving response and apneic time in humans

The aim of this study was to compare apneic time with the human diving response, defined as heart rate (HR) reduction and reduced skin blood flow, in groups with varying degrees of breath-hold diving experience. Apneic time and HR reduction at apneas in air and apneas with face immersion in cold water were thus recorded in nine groups. Skin capillary blood flow was recorded in six of the groups. A

Efficient extraction of textile dyes using reusable acrylic-based smart polymers

Water pollution from industrial or household waste, containing dyes from the textile industry, poses a significant environmental challenge requiring immediate attention. In this study, we have developed a crosslinked-smart-polymer film based on 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate copolymerized with other hydrophilic and hydrophobic commercial monomers, and its efficacy in removing 21 different tex

PROFITABILITY OF VARIOUS ENERGY SUPPLY SYSTEMS WHEN RENOVATING A SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSES IN SWEDEN : CASE STUDY

The majority of single-family houses in Sweden are affected by deteriorations in building envelopes as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, since they are about 30 years old. Theses house are therefore in need of extensive renovation, which provides an excellent opportunity to incorporate energy efficiency measures to reduce both the energy consumption and also operational. A

Effects of continuous Trichloroethylene inhalation on different strains of mice

Seven different strains of mice (wild, C57BL, DBA, B6CBA, A/sn, NZB and NMRI) were continuously exposed to 150 ppm trichloroethylene (TCE) during 30 days. After exposure all strains showed large increases in liver weight, while changes in kidney and spleen weights were small. Plasma butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activity increased in males of all strains and in females of strains A/sn and NZB. The

X-ray and NMR structure of Bet v 1, the origin of birch pollen allergy

The three-dimensional structure of the major birch pollen allergen, the 17,500 M(r) acidic protein Bet v 1 (from the birch, Betula verrucosa), is presented as determined both in the crystalline state by X-ray diffraction and in solution by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This is the first experimentally determined structure of a clinically important inhalant major allergen, estimate

The Politics of Social Networks : Interpersonal Trust and Institutional Change in Post-Communist East Germany

Popular Abstract in Swedish Hur förändras organisationer? In this book, social network analysis is proposed as a key to institutional change. The social network perspective focuses emergent patterns of interpersonal interaction and the resulting ties of interpersonal trust. As a complement and contrast to both March and Olsen’s influential new institutionalist "lo

Brain damage in a mouse model of global cerebral ischemia. Effect of NMDA receptor blockade.

The importance of particular genes in neuronal death following global cerebral ischemia can readily be studied in genetically modified mice provided a reliable model of ischemia is available. For that purpose, we developed a mouse model of global cerebral ischemia that induces consistent damage to different regions of the brain and with a low mortality rate. Twelve minutes of ischemia was induced

Navigating the world and learning to like it - mobility training through a pervasive game

This paper introduces the idea that location based pervasive games can be used to make mobility training for visually impaired children more fun. The user centred development process which has been carried out in collaboration with both visually impaired children and rehabilitation staff is described and we present a novel game concept which combines locative play, sound traces and a physical catc

Mediciners farlighet tycks delvis kunna motverkas

Dealing with epistemic uncertainty in the SST framework

Epistemic uncertainty has been suggested to be fundamental to human experience. The authors of this paper believe that people need to exercise creativity in their conjectures, drawing upon knowledge and experience, in order to generate solutions to both instrumental and epistemic problems, and encourage higher orders of learning. Innovative methodologies are needed which can provide support for in

Referral of sensation to an advanced humanoid robotic hand prosthesis.

Hand prostheses that are currently available on the market are used by amputees to only a limited extent, partly because of lack of sensory feedback from the artificial hand. We report a pilot study that showed how amputees can experience a robot-like advanced hand prosthesis as part of their own body. We induced a perceptual illusion by which touch applied to the stump of the arm was experienced

Swedish Category Norms

Associations are not random. Semantic memory is structured in a way that when hearing a category name a listener will automatically think of exemplars belonging to this category. The order in which exemplars come to mind and the frequency of retrieval of exemplars across individuals are measures of category-exemplar associative strength. Associative strength affects a broad range of psychological

Self-perception and value system as possible predictors of stress

This study was directed towards personality-related, value system and sociodemographic variables of nursing students in a situation of change, using a longitudinal perspective to measure their improvement in principle-based moral judgement (Kohlberg; Rest) as possible predictors of stress. Three subgroups of students were included from the commencement of the first three-year academic nursing prog

Thoracic gas volume measurements in paralyzed mice

We have previously measured thoracic gas volume (V-TG) in spontaneously breathing mice using a whole body plethysmograph and have now extended our technique to allow for V-TG measurements during paralysis. BALB/c mice were anesthetized and placed in a body-box and ventilated via a tracheostomy cannula through the box wall. Box pressure (P-b) and tracheal pressure (P-ao) were measured during sponta

Experts, entrepreneurs and competence nomads: The skills paradox in higher music education

In this study, one-to-one tuition in higher music education (HME) was theorised as a culturally and historically grounded activity system consisting of relation- ships between musicians, instruments, music-making traditions and audiences. The ‘skills paradox’, as seen in the inherent conflict between musicians’ need for long-term artistic training and society’s demands for flexible knowledge produ
