LU staff are best at sustainable commuting

The results from the autumn travel habits survey show that a majority of the University’s staff (approx. 80%) get to and from work by walking, cycling or using public transport. This is a higher percentage than for other large organisations in Lund. However, there is potential for even more people to commute sustainably by investments in public transport and measures to promote cycling on campus.

The doubting fashion pioneer

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Workhorse Philip Warkander became Sweden’s first PhD graduate in Fashion Studies. He describes research in a new subject as continuously doubting – an approach he also applies to the academic community’s focus on hard work. Moving around as a researcher, he noticed one day that he had fallen into the classic man-trap

Battle for democracy decided in schools

The battle for real democracy in the Middle East will largely be decided in schools. The role of education in a democracy was also the theme of a workshop in Alexandria, where Swedish researchers met their Egyptian counterparts. The USI network organised the event on a hot topic in a country that needs to fight for democracy if it is to take root.   “Democracy in Egypt isn’t going to work unless p

New GPS system for microorganisms could revolutionise police work

A research team led by Lund University in Sweden has developed an AI tool that traces back the most recent places you have been to. The tool acts like a satellite navigation system, but instead of guiding you to your hotel, it identifies the geographical source of microorganisms. This means you can use bacteria to determine whether someone has just been to the beach, got off the train in the city
