Cortical blood flow during head-up postural change in subjects with orthostatic hypotension

Regional cerebral blood flow was measured with the 133-Xenon inhalation method in seven healthy subjects with orthostatic hypotension not due to autonomic failure (i.e. non-neurogenic clinical disorder). Measurements were performed during supine rest and during head-up tilt (70 degrees). All subjects had a consistent drop in systolic blood pressure and the typical symptomatology of orthostatic hyp

Boosting Prosocial Career Aspirations : Loving-Kindness Meditation Relates to Higher Communal Career Goals in Youth

Wanting to help others and benefit society in one’s future career are examples of communal career goals. Raising these goals in youth should increase interest in HEED-occupations (Healthcare, Early Education, Domestic, and the Domestic fields) which are strongly gender-skewed and face labor shortage. Research has yet to find ways to increase communal career goals. In this study, we test the novel Wanting to help others and benefit society in one’s future career are examples of communal career goals. “It leaves a bitter aftertaste”: Uncovering the Tensions of Employees’ Communication Engagement and Impression Vulnerability on Social Media

Purpose: This article problematizes the dominant functionalistic and organization‑centric view of employees’ communication engagement on social media and challenges the assumption that such engagement merely reflects managerial success or failure. Adopting an employee‑centred, relational approach, the study advances the understanding of employees’ communication engagement by foregrounding the tensPurpose: This article problematizes the dominant functionalistic and organization‑centric view of employees’ communication engagement on social media and challenges the assumption that such engagement merely reflects managerial success or failure. Delays For Passenger Trains On A Regional Railway Line In Southern Sweden

The aim of this article is to study how selected variables influence delays in train traffic. Data has been collected on train movements, timetables, weather and capacity utilization on a highly utilized single-track railway line in southern Sweden during 2014. Based on this dataset, we have analysed how different factors affect delays in passenger traffic. We measure delays in a novel way, as dev

Three-dimensional ultrasound imaging for discrimination between benign and malignant endometrium in women with postmenopausal bleeding and sonographic endometrial thickness of at least 4.5 mm.

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether endometrial volume or power Doppler indices as measured by three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound imaging can discriminate between benign and malignant endometrium, to compare their diagnostic performance with that of endometrial thickness measurement using two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound examination, and to determine whether power Doppler indices add any diagnostic inf

Upscaling Northern Peatland CO2 Fluxes Using Satellite Remote Sensing Data

Peatlands play an important role in the global carbon cycle as they contain a large soil carbon stock. However, current climate change could potentially shift peatlands from being carbon sinks to carbon sources. Remote sensing methods provide an opportunity to monitor carbon dioxide (CO2) exchange in peatland ecosystems at large scales under these changing conditions. In this study, we developed ePeatlands play an important role in the global carbon cycle as they contain a large soil carbon stock. Non-invasive imaging methodologies for assessment of radiation damage to bone marrow and kidneys from peptide receptor radionuclide therapy. : -

Background/Aims: Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) is becoming clinical routine for management of neuroendocrine tumours. The number of PRRT cycles is correlated with treatment effect but theoretically limited by off-target radiation damage to kidneys and bone marrow. New imaging biomarkers for assessment of PRRT tissue damage would enable evaluation of novel renal and bone marrow prote

Coppinsiella and Seawardiella – two new genera of the Xanthorioideae (Teloschistaceae, lichen-forming Ascomycota)

The genera Coppinsiella and Seawardiella are described based on the combined phylogenetic analysis from ITS nrDNA, 28S nrLSU and 12S mtSSU sequences. The affinities of the new genera Orientophila, Athallia, Flavoplaca and Calogaya are discussed. The former Caloplaca lobulata group (or ‘Xanthoria lobulata-Gruppe’ sensu Steiner et Poelt 1982) found to be positioned in the Calogaya clade based on ITSThe genera Coppinsiella and Seawardiella are described based on the combined phylogenetic analysis from ITS nrDNA, 28S nrLSU and 12S mtSSU sequences. Value of Statistical Life and Cause of Accident: A Choice Experiment

The purpose of this study is to compare the value of statistical life (VSL) estimates for traffic, drowning, and fire accidents. Using a choice experiment in a mail survey of 5,000 Swedish respondents we estimated the willingness to pay for risk reductions in the three accidents. In the experiment respondents were asked a series of questions, whether they would choose risk reducing investments whe

A Spatial Approach to Environmental Risk Assessment of PAH Contamination.

The extent of remediation of contaminated industrial sites depends on spatial heterogeneity of contaminant concentration and spatially explicit risk characterization. We used sequential Gaussian simulation (SGS) and indicator kriging (IK) to describe the spatial distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pH, electric conductivity, particle aggregate distribution, water holding capaci

The Supporting Effects of Social Peer-group Dynamics

Business angels play a crucial role in stimulating the growth of early-stage ventures. They are key players in the venture financing market, providing both financial support and experience from their own entrepreneurial experiences. As the entrepreneurial landscape has historically advantaged males, leading to its male-predominance, previous studies raise awareness of how business angels, particul

Secondary Materials in Indian Manufacturing - Factors, barriers and the implications for secondary materials brokers

Consumer manufacturing brands are touting circular business models as the solution to current linear economy production systems that are overburdening the Earth’s ecological carrying capacity. Using secondary materials in manufacturing can reduce the waste generation and embedded environmental impacts associated with consuming manufactured goods. Companies such as Karo Sambhav seek to connect manu

Shaping scientific careers: the role of early-career research topic dynamics in fostering novel knowledge

This study explores how scientists navigate research topic transitions during their early-career training and examines its impact on the production of novel knowledge. Drawing on survey data of 270 mid-career scientists in life sciences, we investigate their time investment in topics during early career stages (i.e. during PhD and postdoc training) and trace their research output for 15 years afteThis study explores how scientists navigate research topic transitions during their early-career training and examines its impact on the production of novel knowledge.
