Childcare and maternal employment in Germany during the 2000’s

Family policies, including but not limited to the expansion of formal childcare, are often introduced to facilitate the combination of family care responsibilities and paid labour market participation. While a few studies do not yield evidence of a causal relationship, a large body of literature agrees on the relationship between childcare and maternal employment. Thus, this thesis analyses the ef

Assessment of the environmental impacts, energy performance and economic aspects of various construction materials

Increasing CO₂ emission is considered as the main reason for global warming in the world. One of the reasons for producing CO₂ is using of fossil-based materials in the construction projects. This study intends to assess the using bio-based materials instead of fossil-based materials for the thermal insulation layer of the external walls and roofs. Another focus of this project is using green conc

ARE THERE GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE PERFORMANCE OF CHINESE ENTREPRENEUERS?

The author analyzes the differences between Chinese female entrepreneurs and their male counterparts and also looks at how these differences affect company performance. There is no

The Investment Development Path of Brazil

The theory of the Investment Development Path (IDP) by John H. Dunning suggests that as a country develops, its composition of inward and outward foreign direct investment change both regarding to quantity and type of investment. The theory consists of 5 stages a country passes as its OLI-advantages develop. In this paper we have applied the theory of the IDP on the case of Brazil in order to eval

Kvinnor inom tech-branschen

Exploring Prospects for Agonistic Encounters in Conflict Zones : Investigating Dual Narrative Tourism in Israel/Palestine

This article contributes to the emerging literature on possibilities to disseminate agonistic narratives in seemingly deadlocked conflict settings. In this context, conflict parties’ existence is often perceived as being under threat, which makes it demanding to question the current societal order. However, even in the most protracted of conflicts, narratives exist that challenge concurring unders

Effects of low thinning on carbon dioxide fluxes in a mixed hemiboreal forest

We used eddy-covariance (EC) measurements of net ecosystem exchange (NEE) above canopy to assess the effects of thinning on CO2 fluxes at the ICOS Sweden site Norunda in central Sweden. This forest site consists of mixed pine and spruce stands approx. 100 years old. The thinning during late autumn 2008, performed in a semicircle from the mast extending 200m outwards harvested about 25% of the voluWe used eddy-covariance (EC) measurements of net ecosystem exchange (NEE) above canopy to assess the effects of thinning on CO2 fluxes at the ICOS Sweden site Norunda in central Sweden. Out of Time : Alienated temporalities in archaeological knowledge production

The transformation of complex spatial and temporal patterns into mapped and recorded archaeological data requires archaeologists to translate temporally non-distinct processes of exploration into a series of visual recordings of distinct moment of discovery. These visual records, produced by articulating key moments in the excavation process as cleaned and documentable contexts and finds, form a cThe transformation of complex spatial and temporal patterns into mapped and recordedarchaeological data requires archaeologists to translate temporally non-distinct processes ofexploration into a series of visual recordings of distinct moment of discovery. "Fighters for the Freedom of Ukraine" : Canada's Nazi Collaborator Monuments

The 14th Waffen-SS Division Galizien was set up in 1943 by Ukrainian volunteers, largely sympathetic to the more conservative Melnyk wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN(m)). Its members took a personal oath of allegiance to Adolf Hitler and served in a number of capacities on the eastern front. In addition to combat at the front, the unit partook in the crushing of the Slovak N

Discovery of KIRREL as a biomarker for prognostic stratification of patients with thin melanoma

Background: There is a great unmet clinical need to identify patients with thin primary cutaneous melanomas (T1, Breslow thickness ≤ 1 mm) who have a high risk for tumor recurrence and death from melanoma. Kin of IRRE-like protein 1 (KIRREL/NEPH1) is expressed in podocytes and involved in glomerular filtration, but its expression in human cancer has not yet been reported. Screening in the Human Pr

Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the Satisfaction With Daily Occupations and Occupational Balance in Spanish Stroke Survivors

IMPORTANCE: Stroke survivors experience changes in participation level, satisfaction with participation, and participation balance, making it necessary to have a validated tool for their assessment. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Satisfaction With Daily Occupations and Occupational Balance (SDO-OB) in stroke survivors. DESIGN: Psychometric study. S

Insulin secretion is highly sensitive to desorption of plasma membrane cholesterol.

Cholesterol-rich clusters of SNARE (soluble NSF attachment protein receptor) proteins have been implicated as being important for exocytosis. Here we demonstrate the significance of cholesterol for normal biphasic insulin secretion in mouse beta cells by removal of cholesterol from the plasma membrane using methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD). Maximal inhibition of insulin secretion in static incubati
