Infektionsmedicin

Flera forskningsprojekt vid vår avdelning är inriktade på att bättre förstå mekanismer som ligger bakom utvecklingen av svåra infektionssjukdomar, fr.a. orsakade av bakterier men också av virus och svampar. Utgångspunkten för arbetet har ofta varit upptäckten av bakteriella ytproteiner och enzymer som på olika sätt interagerar med människans försvarssystem (medfödd och förvärvad immunitet och blodSeveral research projects at our Division are focused on molecular and cellular mechanisms that contribute to the development of severe infections caused preferentially by bacteria, but also by viruses and fungi. The starting point for this work has often been the discovery of bacterial surface proteins and enzymes that interact with human defenses (innate and acquired immunity and blood coagulati

Changes in incidence and prevalence of vertebral fractures during 30 years

The age and sex-specific incidence and prevalence of vertebral compression fractures were compared between the 1950s and 1980s in an urban population. In women over 80 years of age the incidence of symptomatic vertebral fractures has increased approximately four times; in elderly men even more. Mainly, low-energy trauma has caused these fractures. Thus, one clinical manifestation of osteoporosis--

Changes in the incidence of fracture of the upper end of the humerus during a 30-year period. A study of 2125 fractures

The incidence of fracture of the upper end of the humerus by age group and sex was studied for a 32-year period from 1950 to 1982. The following numbers of humeral fractures occurred: 1950-1954, 411 fractures; 1961-1964, 552 fractures; 1971-1973, 639 fractures; and 1981-1982, 523 fractures. There was a progressive increase in the age-related incidence in older persons, especially in women. There w

Human influence on the continental Si budget during the last 4300 years : δ30Sidiatom in varved lake sediments (Tiefer See, NE Germany)

The continental silicon (Si) cycle, including terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems (lakes, rivers, estuaries), acts as a filter and modulates the amount of Si transported to the oceans. In order to link the variation in the terrestrial Si cycle to aquatic ecosystems, knowledge on changes in vegetation cover, soil disturbance and the impact of human activity are required. This study on varved lake

Much Ado about Nothing : Gender Research in Journals during the last 30 years

The paper accounts for the extent to which gender research is represented in leading archaeological journals throughout the 1980s to the present through the database Arts & Humanities Citation Index (ISI). The paper regards gender research as including gender, feminisms, masculinities, queer, intersectionality and embodiment. It is concluded that gender research, despite its alleged significanc

Experiencescape in action: The ambiguity of open-air museum space during off-season. A case study of Fredriksdal Open-Air Museum

Today, in our ever-changing world, the concept of open-air museums, whose main purpose is heritage preservation, must meet the challenges of the times. These include finding a new role in the modern world, necessity to remain relevant, and addressing the challenges of funding for long-term sustainable development. Our master's thesis examines the case of Fredriksdal Open-Air Museum. We focus o

Oxygen-induced dynamics of nitrous oxide in water and off-gas during the treatment of digester supernatant.

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas and of special concern in wastewater treatment. It is formed in biological wastewater treatment under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. A major reason for high N2O emissions is low oxygen concentration during nitrification. In this full-scale study of N2O emissions from a sequencing batch reactor for treating digester supernatant, the oxygen conc

Diatom-reconstructed summer sea-surface temperatures and climatic events off North Iceland during the last deglaciation and Holocene

Lateglacial and Holocene summer sea-surface temperature (SST) variability in the northern North Atlantic was reconstructed based on diatom records from two sediment cores from the North Icelandic shelf. The temperature changes are discussed in relation to palaeoceanographic circulation patterns and past climatic changes. Modern diatom data from surface sediments from around Iceland and Southeast a

Relationships between primary productivity and bottom-water oxygenation off northwest Africa during the last deglaciation

Abstract in UndeterminedThe upwelling region off northwest Africa is one of the most productive regions in the world ocean. This study details the response of surface-and deep-water environments off Mauritania, northwest Africa, to the rapid climate events of the last deglaciation, especially the Bolling-Allerod (15.5-13.5 ka BP) and Younger Dryas (13.5-11.5 ka BP). A high accumulation rate gravit

Prevalence of impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes after gestational diabetes mellitus comparing different cut-off criteria for abnormal glucose tolerance during pregnancy.

Objective. To determine the prevalence of diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance after gestational diabetes mellitus in relation to different categories of glucose tolerance during pregnancy. Design. Prospective study. Setting. Four delivery departments and three hospitals in southern Sweden took part in recruitment and follow-up. Population. Women undergoing a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test du
