Rooms for reflection and contemplation

Rooms for reflection and contemplation are non-bookable spaces within the University that provide opportunities for meditation, reflection or prayer. The rooms are open to students and staff of the University, regardless of faith or belief. The University's rooms for reflection and contemplation can be used for a variety of activities that require particular silence, such as meditation, prayer and

Diagnostic value of percent free prostate-specific antigen: retrospective analysis of a population-based screening study with emphasis on men with PSA levels less than 3.0 ng/mL

OBJECTIVES: To retrospectively investigate the use of percent free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) compared with total PSA in serum as predictor of prostate cancer in men selected randomly from the general population who underwent biopsy on the basis of abnormal findings on digital rectal examination (DRE) or transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and/or serum PSA levels greater than 10 ng/mL. METHODS: A s

Clinical value of human glandular kallikrein 2 and free and total prostate-specific antigen in serum from a population of men with prostate-specific antigen levels 3.0 ng/mL or greater

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the clinical value of human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) compared with free (f) and total (t) prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the early detection of prostate cancer (PCa). METHODS: In PCa screening conducted in 1995 to 1996 in Goteborg, Sweden, 5853 of 9811 randomly selected men (aged 50 to 66 years; median 61) accepted PSA testing; those with tPSA levels of 3. 0 ng/m

Trade-off effect of hydrogen-bonded dopant-free hole transport materials on performance of inverted perovskite solar cells

Benefiting from their ordered orientation and superior stability compared to traditional conjugated materials, hydrogen bonding (HB)-induced H-aggregates in organic small molecule hole-transport materials (HTMs) hold a big potential for high-performance inverted perovskite solar cells (IPSCs). However, H-aggregates can also lead to excessive face-aggregation by forming the gaps between aggregates,

Moisture-Assisted near-UV Emission Enhancement of Lead-Free Cs4CuIn2Cl12 Double Perovskite Nanocrystals

Lead-based halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are recognized as emerging emissive materials with superior photoluminescence (PL) properties. However, the toxicity of lead and the swift chemical decomposition under atmospheric moisture severely hinder their commercialization process. Herein, we report the first colloidal synthesis of lead-free Cs4CuIn2Cl12 layered double perovskite NCs via a faci

Tapering-free monocrystalline Ge nanowires synthesized via plasma-assisted VLS using in and Sn catalysts

In and Sn are the type of catalysts which do not introduce deep level electrical defects within the bandgap of germanium (Ge). However, Ge nanowires produced using these catalysts usually have a large diameter, a tapered morphology, and mixed crystalline and amorphous phases. In this study, we show that plasma-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (PA-VLS) method can be used to synthesize Ge nanowires. More

Microwave-assisted solvent-free parallel synthesis of thioamides

Rapid parallel synthesis of thioamides is described. A library of amides, synthesised by mixing acyl chlorides and diamines, was transformed into the corresponding thioamides utilising Lawesson's reagent as the oxygen/sulphur exchange reagent. Purification by solid-phase extraction afforded the library members in adequate purities and yields. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Transition Layer Assisted Synthesis of Defect Free Amine-Phosphine Based InP QDs

Environmentally friendly InP-based quantum dots (QDs) are promising for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and display applications. So far, the synthesis of highly emitting InP-based QDs via safe and economically viable amine-phosphine remains a challenge. Herein, we report the synthesis of amine-phosphine based InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs by introducing an alloyed oxidation-free In-ZnSe transition layer (TL) at

Mild Microwave-Assisted Hydrolysis of Acetals Under Solvent-Free Conditions

Acetals are efficiently hydrolyzed with silica gel‐supported pyridinium tosylate moistened with water in solvent‐free conditions under microwave irradiation. The method is efficient and mild, with acid‐sensitive 3‐hydroxyacetals and 3‐methoxyacetals being hydrolyzed in minutes in good yields.
