Ongoing work in developing a general structure and a comprehensive components library aiming at modelling liquid-food process lines is presented. Microfluidic techniques were applied to the separation of parasite and parasite-infected cells from blood to facilitate the detection of leishmaniasis, a disease representing a high burden in the developing world and for which new diagnostic tools are urgently needed. Leishmania mexicana promastigotes were successfully separated from red blood cells in a deterministic lateral displacement device.
På flera platser i Södra Sverige avlägsnas dynvegetation från sanddyner utmed kusten för att öka biodiversiteten i sandiga miljöer. På dessa platser sker även morfologiska förändringar, eftersom dynerna inte längre stabiliseras av vegetationen. I den här fallstudien utvärderas effekten av vegetationsborttagning på dynerosion från vind och vågor. We present a novel, integrated microfluidic system based on acoustophoretic cell-handling that detects bacteria in whole blood in less than 2 hours, substantially faster than current standard methods for detection of sepsis-causing bacteria. Bacteria are acoustically separated from 1 ml blood, enriched by acoustic trapping and finally detected using a dry-reagent PCR-chip.
A survey of four co-design tools for joint analysis, simulation, and design of computer-based control systems developed within the Swedish ARTES programme is presented. The tools allow simultaneous treatment of the control aspects and the computing and communication aspects of the control problems. The aim of this thesis, The Historical Novel and Historical Consciousness in ten- to twelve-year-olds - Maj Bylocks Drakskeppstrilogi in Theory and Practice, is to illustrate the possibilities for pupils of the ages between ten to twelve to develop their historical consciousness by participating in classroom work making use of fiction as a central source of knowledge.
