Vindicating Vengeance and Violence? : Exegetical Approaches to Imprecatory Psalms and their Relevance for Liturgy

Doktorsavhandling i Gamla testamentets exegetik. En översikt av den exegetiska diskursen, så somDue to their calls for vengeance and violence the so called imprecatory psalms are generally considered ethically difficult and subsequently omitted from liturgy. This becomes particularly evident in breviaries, such as the Roman Catholic Church’s Liturgy of the Hours, where both entire psalms and individual verses have been omitted. The widespread omission of lament psalms (including imprecatory

The thesis is a compilation of four articles and deals with Universal design in practice. This concept for designing for all is according to the Swedish Parliament and Government a guiding principle for the society. It is part of the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The thesis contributes with knowledge about the understanding, implementation and co-c

Viscous-dependent fingering dynamics of gas invading into multi-fluids

To realize the transition of our society to a low-carbon future with innovative subsurface energy solutions, understanding the dynamic behavior of gas invading multi-fluid systems in underground pore space is critical. In this work, a joint approach of flow imaging and digital image processing is employed to investigate the fingering dynamics of gas invading multi-fluids in porous media. We examin

Crosstalk between astrocytes and microglia results in increased degradation of α-synuclein and amyloid-β aggregates

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are characterized by brain accumulation of aggregated amyloid-beta (Aβ) and alpha-synuclein (αSYN), respectively. In order to develop effective therapies, it is crucial to understand how the Aβ/αSYN aggregates can be cleared. Compelling data indicate that neuroinflammatory cells, including astrocytes and microglia, play a central ro

Modeling gas exchange and biomass production in West African Sahelian and Sudanian ecological zones

West African Sahelian and Sudanian ecosystems provide essential services to people and also play a significant role within the global carbon cycle. However, climate and land use are dynamically changing, and uncertainty remains with respect to how these changes will affect the potential of these regions to provide food and fodder resources or how they will affect the biosphere-atmosphere exchange

Predicting Soil Saturated Water Conductivity Using Pedo-Transfer Functions for Rocky Mountain Forests in Northern China

Soil physicochemical properties and macropore spatial structure affect saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks). However, due to regional differences and long measurement time, Ks is tedious to quantify. Therefore, it is of great importance to find simplified but robust methods to predict Ks. One possibility is to use pedo-transfer functions (PTFs). Along this line, stratified sampling was carried ou

Augmented reality and virtual reality applications in tourism and place branding: Opportunities and challenges.

This presentation explores the potential benefits of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications for promoting tourism and place branding. The presentation is framed within the context of place branding – which refers to the process of creating and managing a place’s image to attract tourists, investors, and residents (Moilanen & Rainisto, 2009) – and also draws upon experienti

Paul between Synagogue and State : Christians, Jews, and Civic Authorities in 1 Thessalonians, Romans, and Philippians

Å ena sidan skapade de tidiga kristnas fria hållning till den judWhen first-century gentile Christians withdrew from the traditional and civic Graeco-Roman cults and increasingly began to be identified by the Romans as not belonging to mainstream or common Judaism, they soon found themselves pressed "between synagogue and state." On the one side, the fact that they did not observe the Torah elicited hostility from Jews who did not want to be identified with a m

Microhabitat accessibility determines peptide substrate degradation by soil microbial community

Soil pore space, considered the most complex biomaterial that exists, generates a complex environment, that gives rise to a wide variety of properties, such as microbial diversity and carbon storage. Soils contain, at the same time, the largest carbon reservoir on earth and an immense amount of nutrient-limited microbial biomass. The reason why this carbon is not consumed by soil microbes is attri

Properties of Interfacial Proteinaceous Films with Emphasis on Oral Systems

The present thesis addresses three issues related to proteinaceous films at solid/liquid interfaces: adsorption, lubrication and enzymatic interactions. Most of the work has been devoted to oral systems. In addition, gelatin has been investigated as a model protein. Salivary protein adsorption from human whole saliva (HWS) onto hydroxyapatite (HA) and silica has been characterised using ellipsome

Covergence or Divergence? An efficiency approach to European Regional Growth 1980-2002

The study investigates the changing growth pattern of 69 European regions measured at NUTS-level 2 between 1980 and 2002 by addressing the hypothesis of capital accumulation versus technological change as sources of convergence or divergence. The paper adds to the existing regional growth and convergence literature in three respects. First, regional estimates of capital stocks are constructed from

Phase transformation and stability studies of the Zr-H system

Popular Abstract in English Zirconium alloys are widely used in nuclear power reactors as cladding material for their fuels due to the high strength, good corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption cross-section, even in extreme environment, that is characteristic for zirconium. The element, however, also has strong affinity for hydrogen, and when both are present they readily react and form Zirconium alloys are widely used in the nuclear industry because of their high strength, good corrosion resistance and low neutron absorption cross-section. Zirconium has a strong affinity for hydrogen, however, and if hydrogen concentration builds up, the material will gradually degrade. In one class of such hydrogen caused degradation, called hydride induced embrittlement, hydrogen chemically re

Hyperfine Interaction, Zeeman and Stark Effects for Excited States in Cesium

Our previous measurements in the P and D series in 133 Cs have been extended to a number of higher lying levels, populated in a two-step excitation process involving an rf lamp and a CW dye laser. The D states were studied with the level-crossing technique, while the optical-double-resonance method was used for the investigation of the P states. For the magnetic dipole interaction constant a , the

Microfluidic biosensing systems - Part I. Development and optimisation of enzymatic chemiluminescent mu-biosensors based on silicon microchips

Chemiluminescent (CL) enzyme-based flow-through microchip biosensors (mu-biosensors) for detection of glucose and ethanol were developed for the purpose of monitoring real-time production and release of glucose and ethanol from microchip immobilised yeast cells.

En del av arbetet kring målsättningen är att göra samhället tiHuman rights need to imprint on the work of shaping society to promote social sustainability. This thinking is established in Sweden via Transport policy goals. The Transport policy goals consider people's different level of function and the different needs and work towards meeting these needs. Part of those goals is to make society accessible and usable for individual contribution in soci
