High-order harmonic generation processes in classical and quantum anharmonic oscillators
We present a theoretical study of high-order harmonic generation by a slowly driven ''Duffing'' anharmonic oscillator. The power spectra are shown to display a plateau of high harmonics, which ends up with a sharp cutoff. The classical dynamics is analyzed with the adiabatic invariance theorem, which yields a simple interpretation to this characteristic behavior. We compare with the quantum case b
Calculations of high-order harmonic-generation processes in xenon at 1064 nm
We perform detailed calculations of harmonic conversion in a 15-Torr jet of xenon into which a 1064-nm-wavelength 36-ps-pulse-width laser has been tightly focused, so that the peak intensity ranges from 5×1012 to 5×1013 W cm-2. The single-atom emission rates are obtained by integrating the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. We employ an improved atomic model which includes excitation and ionizat

Contrasting interests or two sides of the same coin? - tracing economic and social interests in the shaping of EU labour law
The development of EU labour and social law has been described as a pendulum in the sense of focus shifting between economic interests, such as competitiveness for industry, and social interests, such as improving working and living conditions. This view is to a large extent based on the presumption that those interests are contrasting and pursuing one of them would necessarily exclude the promoti
