From the Management The Faculty of Science has now formally appointed Per Persson as the Director of CEC from 1 January 2021. The process and dialogue with the Faculty continues, and decisions about the rest of the management structure, a new mission, the board and budget will be taken in the autumn. The management group this week prepared for the yearly follow up with the faculty, that will be he

KIT and PDGFRA Mutations and Survival of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Patients Treated with Adjuvant Imatinib in a Randomized Trial
Purpose: Limited data are available about the influence of KIT and PDGFRA mutations on overall survival (OS) of patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) treated with adjuvant imatinib. Patients and Methods: The Scandinavian Sarcoma Group XVIII/AIO multicenter trial accrued 400 patients with a high risk for GIST recurrence after macroscopically complete surgery between February 4, 2004,

Risk assessment for biochemical recurrence prior to radical prostatectomy: significant enhancement contributed by human glandular kallikrein 2 (hk2) and free prostate specific antigen (PSA) in men with moderate PSA-elevation in serum
Most models to predict biochemical recurrence (BCR) of prostate cancer use pretreatment serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA), clinical stage and prostate biopsy Gleason grade. We investigated whether human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) and free prostate-specific antigen (fPSA) measured in pretreatment serum enhance prediction. We retrospectively measured total PSA (tPSA), fPSA and hK2 in preoperat
Omission of postoperative radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery in low-risk breast cancer
Background This prospective cohort study aimed to assess whether postoperative radiotherapy could safely be omitted in women aged 65 years and older with low-risk, estrogen receptor-positive T1N0 breast cancer treated with breast-conserving surgery and adjuvant endocrine therapy. Methods Eligible patients were women aged 65 years and older with unifocal, nonlobular, grade 1 or 2, estrogen receptor
An Experimental Study of Heterostructure Tunnel FET Nanowire Arrays : Digital and Analog Figures of Merit from 300K to 10K
In this work, we experimentally report the figures of merit of state-of-the-art heterostructure Tunnel Field-Effect-Transistor (TFET) arrays from room (300K) down to cryogenic temperature (10K) at supply voltages below 400mV. We demonstrate here, for the first time, that InAs/InGaAsSb/GaSb Nanowire (NW) TFETs are robust enough to maintain excellent figures of merit over a large temperature range
Differential actions of anandamide, potassium ions and endothelium- derived hyperpolarizing factor in guinea-pig basilar artery
Vasodilator responses to anandamide (arachidonylethanolamide) and potassium ions were compared with those mediated by endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) in guinea-pig isolated basilar artery contracted with prostaglandin F(2α). In this artery, EDHF-mediated responses can be evoked by acetylcholine in the presence of both indomethacin (10 μM) and N(G)-nitro-L-arginine (0.3 mM). In en

Poster Fechner Day 2008 Introduction Fechner (1801-1887) first discovered that when two stimuli are presented for comparison people systematically overestimate the magnitude of one stimulus and underestimate the magnitude of the other; termed, time-order effect (TOE) for stimuli separated by a time interval, and space-order effect (SOE) for stimuli separated spatially. Asymmetries in sensory discr

Diffusive-Ballistic Heat Transport in a Two-Dimensional Square Plate Using Energy Conserving Dissipative Particle Dynamics
Diffusive-ballistic heat transport in a two-dimensional square plate was simulated using energy conserving dissipative particle dynamics (DPDe). The solution domain was considered to be a two-dimensional square plate surrounded by walls at constant temperatures, where DPD particles are uniformly distributed. The effects of phonon mean free path was incorporated by its relation to the cutoff radius
Biologically active terpenoids from Bolivian medicinal plants
Pseudo-guaianolides represent a large group of sesquiterpene lactones exhibiting significant cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory activities. Their biological activities are due to a 훼-methylene-훾-lactone unit in their chemical structure, which reacts with free sulfhydryl groups of free cysteine via a Michael-addition. Damsin is a major pseudo guaianolide found in Ambrosia arborescens Mill., a plant di
