This report is the result of a risk analysis of fire hazards in hush houses in the Swedish air force. The results are based on computer simulations, calculations and discussions. Two main fire scenarios are evaluated and it is the worst probable scenarios. The main conclusion is that one technician will die every 20 000 year in a fire in a hush house if there is no fire brigade.

This report contains a description of the Swedish legal provisions that is relevant to reduce the firerisk in historical Swedish wooden buildings. The firestart and the characteristic firespread in these buildings are discussed. Experience from fireprevention measures and efforts from Eksjö, Jönköping, Vaxholm and Fredrikstad (Norway) are also discussed.

The report presents a quantitative riskanalysis of historical wooden buildings in Kungsbacka, Sweden. The risk is shown as the expected cost per year for the insurance companies. Five firesafety strategies are analysed using the same method. These are systematic firesafety work, systematic firesafety work with education of the occupants in the buildings, smokedetectors and fireextinguisher, automa

In this report evaluates how a firedevelopment can be systematically described and how statistics from these descriptions can serve as basis for descisions in fire brigades.

This report looks at the interface between pre-planned operational/contingency plans and their users. It takes in concern the importance of keeping plans up to date, the value of a uniform design of the plans and the need for continuous education and training of personnel among other things.

This report describes the theoretical and practical work producing a Model Fire Room. The project resulted in a Model Fire Room which, in a standardized and clear way, shows the entire fire scenario from ignition to fully developed room fire. The most important stage of the fire scenario shown is the flashover.

The purpose of this report is to compile educational material concerning Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) for the Swedish Rescue Services Agency’s Rosersberg Collage. By using CFD-modelling the smoke-spread is visualized in a pedagogic way and will hopefully lead to a better understanding concerning the issue. The fire scenarios chosen are equivalent to the type of conditions used when training

The aim of the report is to investigate the possibility of reducing the discharge of pollution to the air, water and soil at Ågesta training ground. The report documents which byproducts from fire are created such as smoke and water, and their effects on humans and the environment. A study of the geology of Ågesta which makes it possible to track the flow of groundwater has been included, as well

This report is an evaluation of the fire safety at Stenqvist AB, a manufacturer of printed paper-bags and packages. A risk inventory has been carried out and then the work has been divided in two parts. First, the hazards that may affect the surroundings and people outside the premises are investigated. Second, the internal fire protection is evaluated and, finally, a number of suggested improveme

This study is an investigation of fire safety on intercity and interregional multiple unit trains. In the study the major fire risks are identified using a Preliminary Hazard Analysis, which is followed by an estimation of the consequences for different fires onboard trains using simulations and hand calculations. The improvements when introducing self-closing doors and a water mist system are als

The objective of this work was to examine the evacuation process in a smokefilled environment. In a series of six experiments, eight subjects (in each experiment), were instructed to walk through a smoke filled room. The time and the smoke density were measured and the subjects comments were collected. Geometry, lighting and smoke density was varied during the experiments. The smoke was of a non-i

The risks of the harbour area were identified, calculated and evaluated in order to present suggestions on how to minimise and prevent actions due to the identified risks. The total risk was exhibited as an individual risk and a societal risk. These were compared to predefined criteria's for acceptable risk in order to define the results as acceptable or not.

Working out an advanced operational plan for the 775-level of the Kiruna mine, using CFD-simulations and calculations. The advanced operational plan includes for example instructions on how to control the ventilation depending on where the fire is located. The report also investigates different, proposed fire protection measures for the level.

The report evaluates in which manner a sprinkler system affects evacuation safety in hospitals. Primarily hospitals are categorised in two groups, one where patients are able to evacuate by themselves and one where patients need nurses to evacuate. Margins to untenable conditions during fire are simulated and compared individually depending on the presence of a sprinkler system. The evaluation sho

The report puts together existing experiences about residential sprinkler on issues as its ability to save lives in a fire, its reliability in activation and reasons for failure of fulfilling these tasks. The project also conducts a series of tests with activation of sprinkler in a room with a fire in order to record and evaluate the environment in the room after the sprinkler activated and compar
