Serum proteins of different species and of different human blood groups exhibit various protein glycosylation patterns. Sera from human, pig, sheep and guinea pig have been applied to a panel of eight different lectins immobilized on a gold wafer. The biorecognition has been evaluated with scanning ellipsometry and the two-dimensional matrices obtained have been treated with image analysis and MVD

MUST (Macroeconomic Uncertainty Strategy) analysis can help identify the demand side of competitive intelligence. It is a key tool by which relevant economic variables can be identified for companies. It also provides sensitivity coefficients necessary to translate the company's different environmental scenarios into corporate cash flow and value. Government, it is argued, should support companies

Different factors influencing recycling and burial rates of organic carbon (OC) were investigated in the continental margin sediments of the Skagerrak (NE North Sea). Two different areas, one in the southern and one in the northeastern part of the Skagerrak were visited shortly after a spring bloom (March 1999) and in late summer (August 2000). Results suggested that: (1) Organic carbon oxidation

An optimization approach to a multi-dimensional acoustic inverse problem in the time domain is considered. The density and/or the sound speed are reconstructed by minimizing an objective functional. By introducing dual functions and using the Gauss divergence theorem, the gradient of the objective functional is found as an explicit expression. The parameters are then reconstructed by an iterative

We present a formalism which modifies the Mueller Dipole Model such that it incorporates energy-momentum conservation and also important colour suppressed effects. We implement our formalism in a Monte Carlo simulation and compare the results to inclusive data from HERA and the Tevatron, where we see that there is a good agreement between the data and our model.

A 2-y nationwide survey of patients in Denmark with non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) cultures was undertaken. Patients were identified by means of records held at the International Reference Laboratory of Mycobacteriology, Statens Serum Institut, Denmark. The objectives were to identify isolated NTM to species level, to describe the incidence of the various species and to evaluate the clinical s

Translocations t(2;13)(q35;q14) and t(1;13)(p36;q14), which fuse PAX3 and PAX7, respectively, to FOXO1A, characterize alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Previous studies have suggested that the expression of PAX7-FOXO1A is copy-number dependent, but that of PAX3-FOXO1A is not, which may be due to a weaker PAX7 than PAX3 promoter. The aim of the present study was to compare the transcriptional activities o

The major cytogenetic subgroup of lipomas is characterized by aberrations of chromosome segment 12q13-15, which recombines with a large number of other chromosomal regions. The gene HMGA2 is the main target in these aberrations. For some recurrent rearrangements, chimeric transcripts, including the 5' part of HMGA2, have been described. The 3' partners identified are LPP, LHFP, CMKOR1, and EBF. In

AIMS: Atrial fibrillation cycle lengths can be assessed from right precordial ECG leads and the unipolar oesophageal ECG using a non-invasive method called Frequency Analysis of Fibrillatory ECG. The purpose of this report is to present the results from application of this method in a large group of patients with long-term atrial fibrillation and to examine the differences between patients with 'c

We study agents situated in partially observable environments, who do not have sufficient resources to create conformant (complete) plans. Instead, they create plans which are conditional and partial, execute or simulate them, and learn from experience to evaluate their quality. Our agents employ an incomplete symbolic deduction system based on Active Logic and Situation Calculus for reasoning abo
