Education

We offer a range of basic level courses within biomedical technology, e.g. about biomechanics, sensors, ultrasound, measurement techology, signal processing, neural interfaces. Most of these are conducted in Canvas. Some of the basic level courses are also given as PhD courses. We offer Master's theses work within two main areas: Biomedical Technology, NMEN 01, and Electrical Measurements, BME 05.

Medical acoustofluidics group_old

I have a research interest in lab-on-a-chip technology and acoustofluidics within life sciences. Specific attention is given to development of techniques for acoustic manipulation of cells, microparticles and nano bioparticles (extra cellular vesicles) in microfluidic systems to solve critical needs in life science research and medicine. We are developing microchip acoustophoresis for rare cell is

Wei Qiu Group

We conduct fundamental research in microscale acoustofluidics and translate the resulting physical insights into biomedical applications and mechanobiology. Our research is primarily experimental, but whenever possible it is complemented by theoretical or numerical analyses. From a fundamental perspective, we investigate nonlinear acoustic phenomena in fluids, particularly acoustic streaming, whic

Thierry Baasch Group

Thierry Baasch defended his doctoral thesis, which was awarded with the ETH medal, in 2020. He then joined Prof. Thomas Laurell’s group in Lund to learn about applications of acoustophoresis in biology and medicine. In November 2023, he joined the faculty of biomedical engineering at Lund University as Assistant Professor. His research focuses on applying analytical and numerical modeling to enhan

Per Augustsson Group

Sound carries energy that can exert forces on suspended microscopic objects such as blood cells and biological nanoparticles. My group studies the physics of ultrasonic waves that interact with fluids and suspended objects. We have discovered several phenomena that relate to how sound interacts with fluids and cells. We recently introduced and continue to explore the concept of thermoacoustic stre

Head of Department Letter September 2026

Dear Colleagues,Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the summer. The corridors at LTH are once again full of teachers and students, old and new, trying to find their way through the different red-brick buildings, similar but never quite identical. As a result of the recent recruitment of our communications officer, Johan Lindskoug, for a third of a full-time position, we are now launching the first new
