Description

Is it possible to study religion through archaeology? This course gives a deeper insight into Scandinavian and International studies on religion in past societies. The aim with the course is to analyze central questions within the science of religion, such as cosmology, mythology and ritual in relation to different archaeological contexts. The student will study prehistoric religion in Scandinavia and in the Mediterranean, Greek and Roman religion, Nordic pagan religion and Christian traditions in the North. The course gives tools for knowledge and reflexion on past world views, especially connected to archaeological and written sources. It also gives insights to modern constructions and use of older forms of religious beliefs.
